2 Kings 4:16-23; And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid. And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life. And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers. And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother. And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died. And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out. And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again. And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor Sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.
Is it well with you? Is it really well with you? It's okay to admit that something is wrong. That doesn't make you weak, it just makes God so much stronger. Here we see a Shunammite woman that did not ask for a son, but because she showed kindness to the man of God he told her that she would conceive and bear a son. That is a wonderful thing for a woman that was barren to finally conceive. What a joy she must have felt when she embraced that little bundle of joy. Then on a given day the boy died while sitting on her lap. What a terrible way for this story to end. Did it really end there? Who said this story is over? The woman laid the child on the man of God's bed and shut the door and made a beeline towards the man of God but this was an honorable woman and she went to her husband first. Her answer to her husband's question was that it shall be well. She didn't call a doctor. All a doctor would have done was pronounce the child dead on arrival and pull a sheet over his face. She went to make an appointment with the Doctor of doctors!
The reality was that all was not well. She was either lying or speaking in faith. She knew the severity of the situation but she didn't lose her mind with grief. That would have buried the lad for sure. How many of you get so caught up in your emotions that you cannot make rational decisions? You know who you are; where did you think this was going? You look at a situation and instead of acting and speaking in faith you lose your mind. Then you allow fear to creep in and the devil catches you off gaurd to make the situation look more hopeless than what it really is. I think I hear the fat lady singing because it is all over. If you allowed the devil a foothold in this situation then you might as well stick a fork in yourself because you are so done. Original recipe or extra crispy?
2 Kings 4:24-26; Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee. So she went and came unto the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite: Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well.
Come on, let's go! Break the speed limit if you have to but take your foot off of the brakes and step on the gas! Elisha saw her in the distance and sent Gehazi his servant to see if everything was alright but she said it is well. She was not lying but she didn't go all that way to see Gehazi. She went to see Elisha. When you need an answer from God don't go to Pork Chop Shirley or Sammy Spare Rib. They don't even pray or read their bibles so all they can give you is a recipe for flesh. I can smell it cooking from here. You need to go to the one that can give you the answer to your problem. Connect yourself with someone spiritual that will pray with you and go to the word of God. Don't go to someone carnal or to people that are not a part of the body. They don't have anything good to offer you.
When you go to church you need to tarry at the altar. You don't see people tarrying at church any more. Everybody is so busy thinking about BBQ and picnics or a day at the lake than to hang out at the church. One Monday night at prayer meeting I told the Pastor God wanted us to tarry and since we started tarrying we are seeing the glory of God. One night the Pastor asked me to close out in prayer and God took control and we stayed for another hour. Maybe the reason you are not seeing an answer to your situation is because you don't have time to spend with God. Just like with any other relationship, when there is a breakdown in the communication, there is a breakdown in the relationship. REPENT!
Don't accept any substitute for the real thing. The doctor will take your money and write you a prescription and you might feel a little better. The lawyer will take your money and represent you in the courthouse and he might even win the case for you. You can spend your money at the supermarket and have food for a little while and the bartender will take your money and pour you a drink that might quench your thirst a bit and give you a little buzz. You can go to the drug spot and get a little something to get you high but I know a man from Galiliee named Jesus who is your doctor in the sickroom, and he is your lawyer in the courtroom, and he is your bread when you are hungry and your drink when you are thirsty and he doesn't need to take your money! He will give you the Holy Ghost that will make you feel a lot better than any drug can make you feel!
2 Kings 4:27-31; And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the LORD hath hid it from me, and hath not told me. Then she said, Did I desire a son of my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me? Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thine hand, and go thy way: if thou meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child. And the mother of the child said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her. And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked.
That Shunammite woman was bold! She went right to the man of God and caught him by the feet. Then Gehazi tried to cast her aside. Isn't that like some people that try to get in the way of your miracle? You know what I mean. they don't get their breakthrough because they are not barely making any effort but they see you going to prayer meeting and bible study and to weekend church service and other church activities yet they always criticize the church and the Pastor and everyone in it. Keep hanging around Pork Chop Shirley and Sammy Spare Rib and see if you don't become just like them. They are injecting you with poison and the life is being sucked out of you slowly but surely. You are not that same person that knew how to get an answer from God. You are just a shell of your former self. Separate yourself from those negative carnal people before you end up worse than they are. Then Elisha tried to send Gehazi ahead to touch the child with the end of his staff but nothing happened. You are not going to solve that situation doing the same old things you always do. If you keep repeating the same mistakes you will keep getting the same results. It just doesn't work that way.
2 Kings 4:32-37; And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed. He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the LORD. And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm. Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son. Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.
You can't deny the fact that the child was dead. That was a very present reality, but the Lord is a very present help in the time of trouble. All you really have to do is recognize your condition. Admit your weaknesses, confess your faults. Then God can work with you. As long as you keep saying that you are alright then you are alright. There is nothing to fix there. Recognize your situation but don't sit on the pity pot and become a worrier instead of a warrior. It can still be well with your soul but you have to be trusting God. When you have a situation or a condition take it to the Lord in prayer, then allow him to work in your problem. He will fix it if you let him but you have to get out of the way. He can't help you as long as you believe that you have control over the situation. Let go and let God have his way. Your miracle is on the way. Start praising him in advance! It shall be well! Shalom!
