The things of God run so counter to the ways of this world that those who are not in the household of faith cannot comprehend the transformation that takes place when one yields to the wondrous working power of God. In the very first chapter of this same book, Paul says that even the preached Gospel of Christ crucified is foolish to the Greek (gentile) and a stumbling block to the Jew (23). Whether one does not believe or whether one cannot believe because they lack faith, the things of the Spirit evade.
To the world, the way we celebrate the Eucharist/Communion appears to be some sort of cannibalistic ritual because we say we partake of the body and blood of Christ. They can never appreciate the intimacy of partaking in this tradition of remembering Christ and how he gave his body as a sacrifice and shed his blood for the remission of sin. I've been a believer all my life and I still marvel at the things of the Spirit at times. I can't tell you how it works when I use the name of Jesus to tear down strongholds. Or how when I have laid hands on people and said receive the Holy Ghost, they began to speak in an unknown tongue, or how healing came when hands were laid upon the sick. I know why, but could not begin to tell you how. You see, we have this thing we call faith. That's how the just live,
by faith.
Many of us have benefited from having the Holy Spirit in fullness for years. Others for decades. The
glossolalia that Jesus promised would be evident after the Holy Spirit has come upon us made people laugh and make fun, but we kept on speaking anyway. All that concerned us was that the blind were seeing, the lame were walking, the sick were getting well and the dumb were speaking. These signs and wonders shall follow them that believe! Selah.
2:14The unspiritual man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
