I committed this entire chapter to memory when I was a young teen. It remains one of my favorites to recite. There is an old song from my friends' old "sanctified" church that comes to mind. "There's a storm out over the ocean and its moving this-a-way. If your soul's not anchored in Jesus, it will surely drift away." What better place to be than in the protection of our Almighty? Of course it takes more than just saying we dwell there. This is akin to saying "I'm on the Lord's side." I always ask, " Is the Lord on your side?" When we are in God we must be sure to walk with integrity in our relationship with Him. The best way to insure this is to live daily a life of repentance. Never wait to bring your short-comings before the Lord. We have this hope that when we come to him that he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin and to cleanse us from our unrighteousness (I John 1:9).
I know we hate hearing about sin in our post-post-modern church, so just think of anything that would prevent you from nurturing a relationship with God. Could it be pride? Could it be vain glory? Could it be the lust of the eye? Or is it the lust of the flesh? Whatever it may be, bring it to the throne of grace whereby you can receive mercy. When we are in right relationship with God we are indeed in the ark of safety dwelling under the shadow of the Almighty.
What better witness than King David himself? He was far from being a prefect man. He was a passionate man. So passionate that it sometimes got the best of him. But the thin that kept David the apple of God's eyes was his humility. No matter what David did he always found the good sense to bring it before God. Let's model David's example by keeping our short-coming before God acknowledging like him that we are in need of a saviour, of a protector, of a nurturer whereby we cry, "Abba (daddy) father."
91:1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, who abides in the shadow of the Almighty,
