8:12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 8:16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified together. 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us. We as believers need to celebrate our dependence on God. Paul speaking to the Roman church speaks plainly about whom we as believers should serve, that being not the flesh. Yet time and time again, you heard of some christian yielding to the working of the flesh. Recently a southern Governor got caught in an affair with a woman from South America. The sad part is this Governor claimed to be a christian with family values. Paul says, if you live by the flesh or fleshly desires, you will die ( physically and spiritually ). When this happens to someone that claims to be a christian, the walk don't match up with the talk. That we're suppose to put to death the works of the flesh, that's what "to mortify means", in plain English. Paul states that you shall live, if you get the workings of the flesh in their rightful place. For as many as are lead by the Spirit, this is where the beginning point is to overcoming the flesh. The Spirit of God will not take you anywhere the Spirit of God can't keep you. " If " God is leading your life, why would you keep falling back into the workings of the flesh? Paul says with the leading of the Holy Spirit, we become the Sons and Daughters of Almighty God. We become family, God is our heavenly Father, Jesus Christ is our elder brother and the Holy Spirit is leading us into all righteousness. We are truly dependant on God to save our lost children.We are dependant on God to save all our lost loved ones and friends.We need to know our position in Christ, not to be lead a stray. We live in a time that it's almost impossible to know the sheep's from the goats, spiritually speaking. My former Pastor, use to say that some of the sheep have goat beards and you have a hard time telling them apart from the goats. Paul said, we have not received the spirit of bondage and fear, but we've been adopted into God's family and cry out Abba Father. Since Jesus came into my heart, floods of joy over my soul, like the sea billows roll. Since Jesus came into my heart. Just how do you know that you've been born again, the Holy Spirit bear witness with your spirit confirming that you are an heir with Christ Jesus and joint heirs with other believers. Paul warns about being fully identified with Christ bringing on some suffering. If you'll be so bold as to cry out against sin, you will find opposition in most churches in America. People have a hard time with you, when their favorite singer dies and you reflect back on a life that was not lead by the Holy Spirit. How is it those that should be lead by the Spirit of God, are confused over what it takes to be born again? God's Spirit draws that individual to turn from the leading of the flesh to the leading of the Holy Spirit. We are totally dependant of God. If you think you can live a victorious christian life will out depending on God, your kidding yourself. Your hope is build on nothing less than Jesus Christ and righteousness. |
