| A Moment In Time |

Every once in a while I'll find myself so moved by something that I find it difficult to move away from that moment in time. These moments often occur while I'm listening to music; I'll hear lyrics that somehow manage to clarify my own jumbled thoughts, or a song with a melody that causes goose-bumps to dance across my skin. Once, during a performance of Madama Butterfly, it was nothing more than one perfect, solitary note, hanging on the air that caused the breath to catch in my throat. Every now and then the source will be visual. A sunrise, or sunset. The rays of the sun streaming in brilliant beams from behind a silver-edged cloud. From the time I was a child, I have found myself drawn to the way things look, sound, or feel. Color and texture accentuate my world, whether it's in the patterns of baroque music, the syncopated rhythms of jazz, or the layering of paint in a masterpiece by Van Gogh.
Tonight I found one of these moments in a dance, choreographed by Mia Michaels, and performed by Neil and Lacey on "So You Think You Can Dance." I know this sounds kind of schmaltzy, but even now, an hour later, the emotions evoked by that two-minute dance are still washing over me. Mia's dance tells the story of how she envisions seeing her father, who died of lung cancer, again in Heaven. It was absolutely amazing.
Here's a video of Mia Michael's incredible dance performed by Lacy Schwimmer and Neil Haskell:
