1:1 Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
1:2 But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
1:4 The ungodly [are] not so: but [are] like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
1:5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
1:6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
The central focus of the blessed man is God. Our knowledge of God flows forth from the law of God or the revelation. God has revealed Himself through His holy Word - not just the first five books of the OT but the entirety of Scripture. For me to be blessed, the Word of God must be central in my life. In God's law life must be deeply rooted. Why? Because God and His Word encdures forever. God is eternal and so is His Word. All else is passing and perishing - withering away. Delight - makes me think of ice cream or a perfectly cooked steak. The word delight means the primary source of happiness and pleasure. What brings me delkight? What sin or idols do I entertain daily bringing me only fleeting happiness? The write tells me to delight in Him whose mercies are new every morning! Delight in Him whose greatness and power surpasses all human wisdom! The way this happens is by meditating on God's Word. Meditation is not what we think it is where we sit on a tree stump and just think. It is also rendered muttering or moaning - the sound that animals make when working in a field. It makes me think of walking out of the grand canyon speaking to myself constantly the whole way out of the canyon. Certain thoughts of endurance were pressing me all the way up and out. In the same way God's Word must be lived out throughout the day impacting every choice and decision I make. When faced with doubts, fears, challenges, temptations, sins, and any decision God's Word must dictate my direction. God's Word should be paramount in my marriage, friendships, and ministry. God's Word should guide me in the use of my time and forms of entertainment. God and His Word must be my constant meditation and delight.
God help me love you and treasure your word rooted in the deep well-spring of your glorious person. You are awesome God - more awesome than me and for you and for your glory I was created. Help me to see the day of judgment approaching and to live my life knowing that YOU KNOW EVERYTHING! You know every thought - every word - every feeling in my heart. No sin can be hidden from you because you are the eternal, all-knowing Creator. Father, cause your Word to be the delight of my soul and the focus of my thoughts. I want to stand and may I desire to stand before you than to walk in the way of the wicked. Help me Father that your presence be all that matters to me!
What did I learn about God? He is eternal - He is the source of being blessed - He is all-knowing.
