People throughout history have longed to grasp something bigger than themselves, to contact someone of higher intelligence, to offer homage to a being greater than the finite, feeble and frail existence we know as humanity. Hence, religion is born, man attempting to reach "God". Most often it seems we ended up worshipping the things God created rather than the Creator Himself putting more faith in the things we could see, touch, or as ridiculous as it seems trusting in something we carved, or moulded out of something He created in the first place.
But God had a plan, a blueprint from the very beginning of time, a concept so foreign to the human mind only He, the creator of man could dare conceive. Love! Love embodied in human form! Our God has come as the God-Man, Jesus and he wants a relationship with you!
14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.
But there is a problem, Sin. The creator is Holy and I'm not. Maybe I can clean myself up, religion yes religion, but the sin is already there even if I start today and "clean up my act" I'm already tainted and my track record says I want stay "clean" long.
3:10 as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one;
3:11 no one understands, no one seeks for God.
7:24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
5:8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God--
3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
10:9 because, if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10:10 For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved.
10:11 The scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame."
10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches upon all who call upon him.
10:13 For, "every one who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved."
8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
So, what are you waiting for, religion or relationship?
I'll take a relationship like that over my futile attempts any day!
