..>..>..>..> | Roman's 8:26
| ..>..>..>..> Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Do you know or have you ever known somebody you feel God has given a special 800 to get through to His prayer hotline? Serena and I always felt that way about our family Pastor Pete (like a family doctor, the one you go to when you need help). Serena and I were going to have our electricity shut off; we needed $200 and we prayed, and believe the Lord sent us to Pete, and we spoke with him and he immediately put the situation up to prayer. We didn't tell Pete what exactly we needed, yet when he was finished he said "the Lord said for me to give you this" and he wrote us a check for $100. Of course I felt I wanted to get Pete's hearing checked, but none the less we took the money went home. When we got home there was a message on the machine from my brother in law, he asked us to give him a call. When we called him he mentioned that he wanted to bless us out of the kindness of his own heart with $100, he wasn't in any way shape or form aware of our situation, yet he knew it was something he wanted to do.
First what's the problem with prayer? Excluding prayer warriors; we tend to not do it enough, and if God didn't cause situations in our life, some of us might never do it at all. Its been said some believers treat God like a genie, God's magic lamp only gets rubbed when we need something. Its also been said that we talk to much in prayer. What is Prayer; prayer is simply talking to God, but its not a monologue it's a dialogue, and in order for it to be a dialogue God must speak back to us, whether it's the still small voice, or through His written word the Bible, or through other people, or through an impression He's left on our hearts, none of which will happen if we don't take a moment to be still and wait to hear back. These are the many reasons why we give up on prayer.
Let's look a little closer at our situation. First we had a problem, although we asked the Lord to bless us with the finances, most importantly we asked the Lord how do we go about getting it. As for our Pastor, the only reason he had God on speed dial was because he prayed all the time. If you asked him to pray about something on your behalf, he didn't walk away and say "I'll pray about that" he pulled you to the side and said "Let's pray about that". With my brother in law, I find this to be one of the most important parts of prayer and that's being sensitive and led by the spirit. When God was going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham interceded on behalf of the righteous. Since God knows everything, and can't learn anything new or he wouldn't be all knowing, it in fact was God that led Abraham to pray on behalf of the righteous that were in those cities. And God spared Lot. Genesis 18:20-31 When the Holy Spirit puts somebody on your heart or brings them to remembrance its important that you contact them ASAP and the first response should if possible be a phone call, don't you love hearing "I can't believe you called me right now" or dont you love saying "I need to talk to you"
When we're driven to prayer like nothing in the world can drive us to prayer like a tragedy, the Holy Spirit is even interpreting those groans or whaling, just like raising children, when our kids were babies we interpreted their prayer language to us. And if nothing else; if we're still struggling with prayer, Jesus gave us the model prayer "the Our Father"
James 5:16 The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. | ..>..>..>..>| ..>..>..>..> | | | ..>..>..>..> | | | ..>..>..>..> | | | ..>..>..>..> |
