| I Remember the Moon Landing... |
|

Tonight I watched some programs on the history channel because I wanted to know more details about the moon landing. Actually I remember that date quite well, but definitely not for the same reasons others might!
It was July 20,1969 and while Neil Armstrong was stepping out of the space craft I was with my family on the desolate highway between Colorado and Kansas. My husband, his mother and two sisters were listening to the current events on the car radio but I was lying down in the back seat and feeling totally miserable. Three months pregnant, I knew that something was suddenly terribly wrong. Nobody else yet realized how serious my condition was but as soon as it became obvious, I was rushed to the hospital where I had a miscarriage.
Long story short, the bad news was that my husband and I lost our first child. The good news is that I had already dedicated that child to the Lord as soon as I was aware of his/her presence within me. (Pre-natal ultrasounds weren't done 40 years ago and no one bothered to let us know the sex of the baby, for whatever reason.)
That experience seems like eons ago. Of course my husband and I grieved, but a few years later our joy was complete when we were able to welcome a healthy baby boy into our lives. We named him David, which means "Beloved." He is now 37 years old and still brings us joy! So...I rarely think about the unpleasantness of that July weekend in 1969 although of course I'm eager to meet our firstborn in Heaven someday.
Tonight I watched the fascinating "moon anniversary events" as if for the first time and so that's what prompted this blog. Wow. What a God we have. He has created the earth, the moon and the whole universe. Besides doing all that He also can take memories and remove the pain from them, leaving only the sweetness to comfort us! He is good and I am thankful that we serve such a wonderful Lord! :-) |

[star!] | I have a friend, David, on MyChurch. He calls himself "David the Beloved" in fact.
Wonderful blog, enjoyed reading it. Thanks for writing! |

[star!] | Amen. We do serve a wonderful Lord. I love that name David too now that I have learned what it means. As well as the "moon anniversary events", I notice they are running a lot of stories on Mars and a group that studies Mars and how to warm it up for human habitation. |

[star!] | I wonder how many on MyChurch remember the Moon walk. I remember when I was a kid. They claimed it would be impossible to go there. But, there was so much more in those days that was interesting. So much more to be invented. My sister and I used to get up early on Saterday morning and watch the "test padern" untill the first show came on. Then some chanels would go off at 4:00 PM. I used to stand at attention while they would sound off with the National Anthem and those jets flying. I have a son who will be 35 on August 3rd. I can't believe he's that old. He has a little girl. My daughters all have kids and my oldest daughter tells me how she wishes she grew up in the fifties and sixties also. Man has outsmarted himself. They think we are better off now than before. But, I think those of us who grew up watching black and white TV's with the great shows that were on know better. We were always outside playing too. Sidewalk roller skating. We used to get those planes that you put together and they would last for a couple flies. Sorry for the rambling. All this brings back some great memories. |

Ah yes, Golden. I remember those things too. It's fun to reminisce sometimes! I'd forgotten about the TV test patterns and the sign-offs. And you mention playing outside: I was startled a few months ago when I heard a lady on TV say that the reason she and her husband were moving to a new house was because she wanted her little daughter to know what grass is! There just aren't as many back yards as there used to be and it's our loss as a society.
Thanks for the stars everybody! |

[star!] | I remember it too. Fuzzy and black and white. I was a little girl.
Barb, you inspire me to be a better woman. He has created the earth, the moon and the whole universe. Besides doing all that He also can take memories and remove the pain from them, leaving only the sweetness to comfort us! He is good and I am thankful that we serve such a wonderful Lord! |

[star!] | Isn't that neat that we will meet our unborn babies in heaven, someday? Blows my mind! Praise God He gave you your beloved David...and I know you do! |

Marcella - I agree that our memories are precious (special) indeed. I remember that old song you mention! Joey, thanks for your kind words. Your blogs inspire me too! :-) And yes, Lara, it blows my mind too to think about meeting my unborn baby some day! Through the years I've often wondered if it is a girl or a boy, and I wonder what its name is? We had names chosen for each sex back in 1969 but since then we've decided that we don't care for the [girl's] name that we chose. And we used the boy's name for David! Hmmm. I wonder if God has named the child or if we'll get to choose it then???!! Fascinating topic! |

| I believe God actually showed me what my baby would have looked like. Blond hair with curls, blue eyes, fair skin (which was all genetically possible with my ex), dimples and even her disposition, so cheerful, happy and sweet. Energetic. Kyla Allegra was her name b/c that was the name my ex husband and I had chosen for if we had a girl, and I feel God showed me she was a she, and since we never did have a baby before we divorced, she got that name. God's done it for others, as well. But I aborted her. |

Thanks Debbie for your star and response. I can see how, as we approach the end of our lives on earth, we can "long for Heaven" because by that time we know so many people who are waiting for us there!
Lara (and others too), I have to tell you something neat! You mentioned that God showed you what your baby would have looked like...
My dad had always carried grief around for another daughter that was born to my parents in 1952 when I was ten. That little girl was very ill all her short life and died at the age of three. Long story short: 30+ years later at a Christian retreat (in the late 1980's) the Lord gave him a vision of what she looked like now and it affected him so profoundly that he received a new joy and all the old grief finally left! What was neat is that my sister appeared to him as a young adult, not a 3-year-old, and of course she was healthy and happy. It was an awesome experience for him, and he was a very "down-to-earth" Christian man, not given to visions. So anyhow, I just thought you might find that interesting. :-) |
