A testimony is "a declaration or statement made under oath or affirmation by a witness, often in response to questioning, to establish a fact" (Webster's New College Dictionary). We daily encounter the testimonies of many people--family members, teachers, preachers, media, friends. We also daily encounter the testimony of Jesus Christ. If we pay attention to no other testimony, we need to pay attention to His.
"Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. This is the one who came by water [spirit] and blood [flesh]--Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit [of God], the water [spirit of man], and the blood [the carnal man]; and the three are in agreement. We accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which He has given about His Son. Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made Him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about His Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life" (I John 5:4-12).
John the Baptist testified, "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains in him" (John 3:36).
Jesus Himself gave this testimony:"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am" (John 14:1-3).
Above all, I believe Your testimony, my Lord and my God. Amen
5:11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
