Monday, July 27, 2009 -- (Meditation: Psalm 30:11-12)
God, when my heart is crushed in blackness, even then You are as much in
control as on the brightest summer day. When our nation turns its back on
religion, and when the politics of rage are on the rise, even these times
are governed by You. When we see defeat and chaos, You see but a hitch in
the victorious march of Your providence. God, help us to trust Your way of
handling things. Through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.
30:11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
30:12 To the end that [my] glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
Tuesday, July 28, 2009 -- (Meditation: Ephesians 1:17)
Almighty God, what idea is worth defending? What beach is worth storming?
What principle is worth fighting for? God, in a time when so many believe
that to accept all people we must agree that "anything goes," grant me the
wisdom to know when and how to stand up for You. In Jesus' name.
1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
Wednesday, July 29, 2009 -- (Meditation: I Peter 5:6)
God, sometimes I want You to be a consultant. I want to get Your advice,
but I want to make the decisions. I want You to be my co-pilot, but I want
to be the pilot. I want You to be my partner, but I want to own 51% of the
stock. I want to turn to You when I need You, but I don't want to invite
You into ALL areas of my life. I want to keep my hands on the controls.
O God, forgive my folly, my lack of trust, and my need to control.
Through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.
5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Thursday, July 30, 2009 -- (Meditation: Isaiah 64:8)
O God, my heart yearns to be perfectly guided by You, perfectly yielded
to Your will, perfectly rested in You. Do with me what You know is best.
May I live today with no other motive than to love You. You are the Potter,
I am the clay. Through the grace of Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
64:8 \64:9\Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we [are] all thy people.
Friday, July 31, 2009 -- (Meditation: Ephesians 4:31-32)
God, forgive our rancorous political squabbling. Reasonable reconciliation
won't stand up to the demands of the big money of special interest groups.
The politics of unforgiving extremes is played out in shrill and bitter
talking-points. The American people are caught in the middle between the
posturing of the two extremes. God, grant us humility, respect, wisdom,
a sense of humor, and a willingness to see good in another's point of view.
In Jesus' name. Amen.
4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
