Like that book I read recently says, "Grace is not an excuse to sin, but makes it so there's NO excuse to sin". God's grace is His ability in us to change us, not us change us, but like I've said before, we gotta seek Him; have a real relationship w/ Him so that we WILL be changed by Him.  He won't do it otherwise, b/c He can't force it upon us.

I think people have just totally misunderstood what grace really means and what grace really is, therefore have missed the good news of the Gospel!  They don't know how to get out from under falling into sin, and struggling, so they need a way to justify it b/c of their guilt, feeling there's no way to stop the vicious cycle.  But that's the best news is God's grace, if we will receive it, stops the vicious cycle of sin, if we are filled with that grace.  :-)  OK, Lara is shutting up now. lol

There is a real burden on my heart for those who believe that they will always continue to sin because they tell themselves that they will never be perfect.  The written Word tells me the wages of sin is death both physically and spiritually.

Heavenly Father, I ask that you draw Your children to You, speak into their spirit and release them from any anti-Christ doctrine they have been taught by mankind. Cause your children to know You as you desire for Your will to be done and Your kingdom to come in their lives  in the name of my precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Lara, I think you've nailed it - too many people don't understand grace and thus have missed something essential in the Good News.

The issue is that they think that they can change who they are.  So instead of contemplating Rom 6:7 [NIV], people end up in a viscous cycle of trying to avoid sin on their own and don't understand why they can't.

RO 6: 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

RO 6:8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

RO 6:11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

It is when we die to ourselves and let God take control of our lives that we come to really know Him, love Him, and trust Him.  This is what it takes, dying to ourselves so that we may come to live a life free of the chains of sin: the guilt, the control sin has over us, and the damage it leads us to inflict upon ourselves and others.

"Dying to self."  "Let go and let God"  These are short phrases that do not convey what's really going on.  It's really all about control.  When we stop trying to do things on our own, when we stop trying to control everything, when we give up on how we used to live, and when we recognize that the one God of the Universe can and will do anything to accomplish His Will for us and through us, we experience that change from sin to real life.

With just the littlest, tiniest faith, God gives us the help (grace) we need.  We come to know Him a little more, love Him a little more, trust Him a little more.  He gives us more grace to overcome the areas in which sin is the strongest in our lives and to sooth the wounds that sin has caused.

It's not about being perfect.  It's about knowing who we are.  We are His people, and He is our God.  We are His child.  As such, He gives us the grace we need to remain faithful to Him and to help others along the way.

It takes the supernatural POWER of G-d's HOLY SPIRIT to do His work in and through each individual for without it we will ALL perish and live a defeated life.

IHS, are we saying the same thing?  I can't tell if you "correcting" what I wrote or adding to it.

Gene, I have added to what you wrote here:-.

The issue is that they think that they can change who they are.  So instead of contemplating Rom 6:7 [NIV], people end up in a viscous cycle of trying to avoid sin on their own and don't understand why they can't.

Gene, I have corrected what you wrote here:-,
It's not about being perfect.  It's about knowing who we are.  We are His people, and He is our God.  We are His child.  As such, He gives us the grace we need to remain faithful to Him and to help others along the way.

Gene, We (G-d's children) are called to be perfect, righteous, (faithful to Him alone) and Holy as He (G-d) is holy (to be sacred and separated from the world). G-d's children bears the fruits and Spiritual DNA of their Spiritual Father.  Revelation 21/7 (He that overcometh shall inherit all things; And I will be his G-d, and he shall be my son. Revelation 21/8 But the fearful, unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and socerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone; WHICH IS THE SECOND DEATH.
22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book.

Many seeds (the written WORD) were sown in the hearts of people (Luke 8/10-18.  However only the ones who are born-again (filled with the Holy Spirit) kept the written Word and brought forth fruits, because they kept the Word on their minds and in their hearts at all times and it is really not at all difficult because it is the HOLY SPIRIT that helps them..

Heavenly Father, please watch over Your Word to perform it to completion, in the name of my precious Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.

IHS, I think we're actually in close agreement on this.

We, in and of ourselves, are not capable of being perfect.  That's why we need a savior.  But when we allow God into our lives and become filled with the Holy Spirit, His perfection enables us to live as we should, holy and righteous.

As you've stated, reading and meditating on the Written Word is a key element.  It is key in desiring God, accepting God, and knowing the kind of life we are to strive for.

Being perfect is a consequence of faithful life.  Being perfect is not the cause of a faithful life.  That is why I said, "It is not about being perfect."
