| Does repentance mean a change of mind? |

2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Since I have been "born-again", I have questioned many people and I have found that many people have a problem with the word REPENT. The above verse clearly states that repentance means turn away and THEN you will receive the GIFT of the HOLY SPIRIT. Let us take the opposite stance. NO REPENTANCE NO GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. That is why people are "backsliding all over the place". They have not truly repented from past sins, so they keep going back to partake of the devil's table. Some say they are "manic depressive". some say they are "depressed", some say they are "stressed". All of the reasons they give to not turn away from a sinful lifestyle of wrongdoing, based on "human secular reasoning". I have friends who give me these excuses and yet say they are "Christians", and they know exactly why they have made the choices they did. Many keep taking the anti-depressant drugs or the "mind altering drugs" they get from the "secular world". How could one take "mind altering drugs" and think that they can have a "sound mind"? Maybe it is just me. After, I got to know my Lord, I decided that He (Jesus Christ) is worth my all and I gave myself to Him totally (I made the choice to get rid of everything that stood in the way of my receiving this precious gift of the Holy Spirit).. Why? because I love Him and because I value what He has done for me. I turned away from my own "stinking thinking" and He gave me in exchange a "sound mind" and filled me with the gift of His Holy Spirit to get the job done and keep me from sinning against Him. I can attest to the fact that the above verse of scripture is true. Alleluia. My questions to everyone will be. 1) Is your Soul worth anything to you? 2) Are you willing to die and go to hell? 3) Why take a chance? Shalom to all my friends Sister Marcia 7/26/09 |

[star!] | Right to the point dear sister! You have given us points to ponder... PTL!
26:3 Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee.
2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk ye in him: 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Blessings In Him... :o) Herman |

My dear friend, I do know one thing, I must always try to be aware of, that no one's blood is found on my hands. As long as I speak of repentance, I know I am okay with my Lord and Master.
Thank you for the additional scriptures and words of encouragment, brother Herman.
Shalom to you my friend Sister Marcia |

| Hi Marcia. Repentence means: a change in direction, a determination to never go back to the way it was before, a change of heart AND a change of mind. In short, a change in everything and a new lifestyle. So no wonder people have a hard time with the word "repent". Its because they still like to cling onto stuff that they should have dealt with and changed years ago. Example: they like the new lifestyle - but they like the old one too. |

Hence the backslidden position Stevie:-
1:12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds [they are] without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
1:17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
1:18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
1:19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
1:22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
1:23 And others save with fear, pulling [them] out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present [you] faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
1:25 To the only wise God our Saviour, [be] glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

I'm torn on some of the conditions people are labeled with. I know that it don't line up with the sound mind and the peace Jesus promises. That's why I'm like---it's not sitting well with me, but I far from know everything. God's showing me. Anyways, I know my anxiety (and the physical sickness that accompanied it) these past 8 months was my own doing. Not seeking God as I should. Not thinking upon lovely, pure things, etc. Not reading the Word as I should. Even just reading the Word, daily, faithfully, began to take care of the sickness. I combatted anxiety attacks by reading the Word (whatever, wherever) out loud. They're gone. So yeah. Just my own experience to share. However, I think going through that will make me a bit more sensitive to others who find themselves in that place. Not saying "there there", but encouraging them on how to get out of that place. That they needn't stay there. I admit, I feel sick today, so anyways, but I'm confident God will restore my health completely. He sent His Word and healed them. But I must do my part by surrendering and seeking His face, and He'll do the rest. |
