My husbands sister and her family do this, and they were just here visiting.  They went out and found a couple of the spots around here while they were here.  I think it is cool.

Our family has been doing this for  a couple of years. We even have a travel bug cache that has logged countless miles & states. My techno husband, kids,& Oodle dogs love the time in the woods when the cache is in the woods. We'[ve done location caches. We're geocaching junkies.

We dropped off four travel bugs when we went to the Virginia/DC area a couple of summers ago with instructions attached to help them find their way back home to Bakersfield, CA.  It was a lot of fun watching them get back here; well, the two that made it, anyway.

Soozanne,
your son has learned well ! I've done a lot of Scout training classes over the years, I couldn't have made up a better list for the pack. This is a wonderful way to make the outdoors an adventure, My kids would have loved it when they were still home....sigh. Daniel went on an adventure with Geosearching when he was in the VA in Minneapolis, it let them use new skills based on old skills, he enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for the post!

Dennis,
That is not a coincidence.  His Dad, My DH, is an Eagle Scout.  My boy is working to earn the same honor!

That is a well written blog for a 13 yr old boy, but then again his mom writes very well too.

My parents have goecashed all across the states and some in canada and love it.  They have taken my family on a few of them and my boys love to go out.  It is a fun family adventure, thanks for posting your son's blog.

Glenn, I'll pass your compliments on to my boy and thank you for the one directed at me!  Last Halloween, someone created a holiday cache you could only find at night with a flashlight (reflector clues).  In the cache was a plastic skeleton!  Geocachers are creative!

My family Geocaches as well. It's one of the best family activities we do. It's outdoors, It's fun, and most important it's together! My son is a cub scout, I'm his Den Leader and Cubmaster, and he loves scouting. This just augments some of the things he is learning in scouts. I personally love it, because I can get out and hike and explore areas that I have never been before and I grew up here.
