| Seventh Day |
|
| |
Okay, a little test for everyone. What day of the week, according to our calenders, is the 7th day? Mine shows it's Saturday. The Jewish people begin the Sabbath Friday at sunset and it ends at sunset on Saturday. So why is Sunday the traditional day we all go to church? hmmm... 2:3 So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all his work which he had done in creation. |

I've read it is b/c the apostles and early believers wanted to commemorate Jesus' resurrection, so they called it the "Lord's day". There are ancient Christian writings which support this. |

[star!] | Saturday is the Sabbath, Sunday is the Lord's day. The first church wanted to show they were putting God first in everything, so they gave Him the first of their week. The Sabbath is entering God's rest, and is a spiritual thing where we cease from doing "our" works and God does His work in and through us. So we need to enter that Sabbath rest, so the "Sabbath" is everyday, as is the Lord's day, for we put Him first always, not just one day a week. One person esteems one day above the rest, another considers them all the same. Let each person be completely established in his mind about it, for what's not done from faith, is sin. :-) |

When God blessed the 7th Day and sanctified it..There was not a Jew around as you can see in the 2nd Chapter of Genesis....GOD set this day aside before man was created. It is to be observed by all Christians. It is a sign between God and His People....
31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it [is] a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that [ye] may know that I [am] the LORD that doth sanctify you.
We as Christians (Christ-Like) should want to follow the examples that Jesus left for us...He worshipped on the Sabbath Day...
4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
The Apostles worshipped on the Sabbath day....
13:13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem. 13:14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks. Sunday has become the traditional day and not the biblical day of worship because of Emperor Constantine....Here is a link that will enlighten you on Constantine...and how SUN Day worship came into being...It did not have anything to do with the God of the Bible....It had to do with worshipping the SUN...That's why it's called SUNDAY....I don't agree with all the information on this link...but it will enlighten you on Constantine.....
http://www.middletownbiblechurch.org/churchhi/church6.htm
I think I'd rather stick with the God of THE BIBLE....and follow the examples Jesus left us in His word ;o)
Oh by the way..Jesus was not resurrected on Sunday....He was resurrected on Saturday....The Sabbath Day...That's why He's the Lord of THE SABBATH

20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Meaning SET IT ASIDE. 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 20:10 But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates: meaning REST. 20:11 For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Who blessed the Sabbath day? The Lord. Who made it Holy? The Lord. See, mankind cannot make anything HOLY. Please tell me why people are seemingly connecting the Sabbath day to go to Church? Nowhere did G-d command to go to Church on the Sabbath Day. There were no churches established back then. Jesus never told His disciples to go build a Church. Now, we are told our bodies become the temple of the Holy Spirit and that body should not be defiled, or else it will be destroyed.. Yes, Marjay Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath (meaning Lord of Rest). That is why He said come unto me all who are weary and I will give you REST. All we are commanded to do on the Sabbath is REST, our whole family should just REST, our cattle and servants should just REST. That is ALL we are commanded to do. Shalom to all my friends Sister Marcia |

Leigh the church began in the wilderness....
7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. 7:38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and [with] our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:
and the LORD commanded the Children of Israel to have a Holy convocation on the Sabbath Day....
23:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 23:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, [Concerning] the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim [to be] holy convocations, [even] these [are] my feasts. 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day [is] the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work [therein]: it [is] the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

Actually Margie, wasn't it synagogue they went to on the Sabbath? 1When they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. 2As his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3explaining and proving that the Christ[a] had to suffer and rise from the dead. "This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ,[b]" he said. And actually from this passage, it appears he wasn't even going in to worship as much as he went in to share with God's originally "chosen people" the good news that they of all people should have known, the news their own prophets foretold! The good news about Jesus who fulfilled the law (rendered it impotent). Note it says a "Jewish synagogue", not a Christian synagogue. Plenty of extra-biblical texts describe Christians celebrating the "Lord's day" on Sunday, the first day of the week, in honor of his resurrection. A few passages of scripture hint at this too, like Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. Leigh, here are some more links from well-known online informational resources, for a balanced study (with links for further study): http://www.gotquestions.org/Saturday-Sunday.html http://www.catholic.com/library/Sabbath_or_Sunday.asp http://christianity.about.com/od/whatdoesthebiblesay/f/sundayworship.htm We owe it to ourselves not to just take one person's word for it, or one website! :-) |

I think it's far less important to get bent out of shape over Sat vs Sun worship and far more important to just pick a day, any day, and focus your all on worshipping Him and Him alone. Set the entire day apart for God. Don't corrupt it with the daily worries of work and projects at home, or even how you can possibly make all 3 soccer games.
Since the apostles picked Sunday, that's what I shoot for. If Saturday works for you and helps you stay connected to God through Christ, then I certainly won't get in your way. Seek ye first the kingdom of God.
The worst words we could ever possibly hear are, "Depart from me, for I never knew you." Life, Christian or secular, is about the quality of our relationships. If we're getting bent out of shape over which day we worship, then we're not really trying to work on improving any relationships. |

MarJay, do you go to Church on your Sabbath day? If the answer is yes, then you are breaking the Sabbath Day Law according to the following scriptures you referrenced, which I copied below:- 23:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 23:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, [Concerning] the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim [to be] holy convocations, [even] these [are] my feasts. 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day [is] the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work [therein]: it [is] the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings. Also I copied here your response to Leigh and I believe to me that is why I am responding. Please tell me where was the Church in the wilderness and who gave the orders to build this Church? Leigh the church began in the wilderness....
7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. 7:38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and [with] our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: One more thing, if thre was an actual Church, was this a Church that only the Israelites went to, or were there Gentiles there also?

If you follow the Sabbath because the Law, then you MUST follow it in whole, You may NOT carry a Bible, you may NOT drive, you may NOT put on any makeup, you may NOT carry money, do I need to go on? If you do any of the above, then you are not following the Sabbath. For to follow the Sabbath Law is more than just going to church on Saturday, it is separating that day out to make it HOLY. There are NO gray areas. If you are going to follow the Sabbath, then do so, but don't tell people you follow the Sabbath and mock the Lord. |

Actually Mike I was referring to Marcia's statement below in blue...Of course there were no synagogues built back when the Children of Israel were in the wilderness, but they sure were in Jesus Day...I'm like Talking Mule....yall are everywhere. (smile). And Mike to be a Jew is a nationality..not a religion...ISRAEL is a nation of people....and Judah is but one of the tribes, there are 12 tribes......Gods chosen people have not changed....There is no originally chosen people...The people back then are the same people today..and I shall leave it at that my friend (smile) There were no churches established back then.
Leigh my friend, I've said all I've felt led to share here on your blog..I shall not be returning. Some folks have nothing to do with their time but worry about what I'm doing....but it's all good (smile)...So my dear friends, please don't leave no more love notes for me here..I won't be reading them...lol |

I am learning a LOT on this site and I just love it. It is ALL good and meant to stir us all up to search the scriptures for the truth. Now what we do with that truth is between us and G-d.

Brothers and Sister,
I would just like to say that God is the same yesterday, today and forever more but man is ever changing......God set the calendar one way and man changed it. Once man changed the calendar people became confused on whe to worship but if you fllow God there is no confusion......so I ask you to do as I do when I want to know the truth I get my bible and a Strongs and a Dictionary and I begin to lok up and research it all......So look up the calendar and sabbath ad see what God will reveal to you because I can give it to you but let God speak the truth to you because my sister Margie has hit it on the noise (Great ob Sis)......Study and dig in and if you get a chance go to (www.theisraeofgod.com) and study the teaching on the Sabbath and you will never be the same. |

| I think we're getting a little out of hand with this. I think it doesn't matter which day is set aside (in my opinion it should be every day). Ask yourself tis question: What do you say to the person who have their days off in the middle of the week? Are they out of the will of God because they have to work on Saturday and Sunday? Please Read II Cor. 3:5-7. I really think that the vein of this topic is going down the road of legalism. If you think I'm being a little harsh, ask yourself this question: How is this discussion promoting the Kingdom? |

Amen Gerald, it is not the day, but rather do we spend time with our Creator, and when we do spend time, is it because we feel we have to, or because we want to? Who of us, having children, would feel good because our child felt that they HAD to spend time with us, would we rather not have our child spend time with us because they wanted to! It is all in the heart, and our intentions! Whether we spend the time on Saturday, or Tuesday, or every day. |

Sunday is the day God rested . . . from creating his new, heavenly creation which began with the firstborn of all creation, begotten from the grave by the power of the resurrection, Jesus. It is the day of the week which is 7 sabbaths plus one day, or fifty days following the Passover and which will always fall on a Sunday, Pentecost as recorded in Acts. The Jewish observance of the Sabbath was as Israel was instructed to do under that Old Covenant. They correctly understood that to mean nothing less than every Sabbath. It's a similar understanding applied by Christians in the New Covenant when we observe the memorial he commanded us to keep in rememberance of him when (every Sunday, every first day of the week) come together. |

Gil T Whether Sunday or Saturday, or even Tuesday, the day does not matter. what matters is whether we worship Him every day. If you try to observe the Sabbath on Sunday, a day of rest according to the Law, then you put yourself back under the Law, and not under grace. For if you try and fail to follow the Law, where is your sacrifice, for the Law requires blood! Grace requires faith! If under the Law, then your sin must be paid for again. |
