| Brought out by God, doomed to perish through the disobedience of unbelief. |

"The most important thing a man learns from history...is that men don't learn from history!"20:2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. God brought the people out of bondage, but the people thought that it was up to them to bring themselves into the promised land. This belief, that is rooted in self-dependence, resulted in their failing to mix the word with faith and therefore enter the promised land of rest. They, by their own disobedience, were doomed to perish in the wilderness. So it is, to this very day. 1 Corinthians 10:1-6 (ESV) For I want you to know, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. 2 Corinthians 3:12-15 (ESV) Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. And to what doom is the modern Christian subjected when they refuse the word of grace? Isaiah 28:9-13 (NASB) To whom would He teach knowledge, And to whom would He interpret the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just taken from the breast? For He says, 'Order on order, order on order, Line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there.' Indeed, He will speak to this people Through stammering lips and a foreign tongue, He who said to them, "Here is rest, give rest to the weary," And, "Here is repose," but they would not listen. So the word of the LORD to them will be, "Order on order, order on order, Line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there," That they may go and stumble backward, be broken, snared and taken captive. People who refuse to listen to the message of "rest" are then doomed to be given to the belief that the message is "rule on rule (or KJV precept upon precept)." They like those who refused to enter the land with Joshua and Caleb were doomed to perish in the wilderness. So it is, to this very day. Sincerely, Craig |

[star!] | Yep, I was in the trap for 5 years, and just getting untangled out of its choking stifling tentacles. I want rest. |

[star!] | Amen, Craig. "Here is repose (rest)", but they would not listen. Why would anyone refuse rest? Poor pitiable fools. As I am too at times. But then the same also deny others rest, too. |

It is intereseting to me that the majority of blogs that spoke to Exodus 20:2, which is todays Bible verse, went on to extol the virtues of keeping the Ten Commandments, thus following the steps of the Galations and mixing law keeping with faith. The tutor of the Law, which was given to cause sin to increase and break us of our self-dependence and self-worship, leads us to Christ. And then they come...teaching that Christ is now the tutor that leads us to the Law. Having begun by the spirit we are encouraged to attempt to perfect the flesh by keeping rules. Abiding in Christ does not lead to a life of self-indulgence and lawlessness. Trying to keep the Ten Commandments does. Not because the Law is bad, but because we are trying to use the Law in an unlawful way. We are dead to sin, and we are dead to the Law; we are alive to God in Christ and now we walk by the spirit and bear the frult of the spirit...not the produce of rules and law keeping, but the fruit of a abiding in Christ, of being a new creation in Him. He does not sin and those who abide in Him do not sin. When we do sin it is because we have turned from him and are attempting to rebuild what has been destroyed (self-dependence). A Christian who attempts to add law to walking by the spirit will find themselves committing sins; at least they will if the scriptures aren't lying that tell us that the law is the power of sin! And we know they aren't lying! Yours in him, Craig |

[star!] | Most excellent! We are no different than they. God showed me that a long time ago. Hasn't He proved Himself over and over again, yet you don't trust, yet you whine and complain, yet you try to accomplish everything in your own strength. |

| The problem is when people are saddled with the letter of the law without the Spirit of the law, and that was the problem of the Pharisees and many others, even now. Moses, Elijah, Abraham, Joseph, Jacob are still all a part of our heritage in Christ, who "did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it." I am grateful to know what He came to fulfill on my behalf, and because He did that, I can live in by the Spirit. Praise the Lord for grace. |

I too was of that camp (belief in keeping the LAW), thinking I had to earn my way, that God will not help those, unless they help themselves first. Up until about 3 weeks ago.... I have written so much here on MyChurch, spouting my ignorance....boy... it is really a freedom when we see that Christ did it all.... all I have to do is have FAITH. I have left my posts up, so I can go back and see where I came out of....YIKES! |
