Joe, I really enjoyed reading this! Since I don't pay ANYTHING to use this site, I figured you didn't really owe me anything. :-)  (So I ain't complaining!)

I love this: "Users aren't our product." It's also good to be reminded that the focus of the MyChurch developer team is churches. And speaking very frankly, I am GLAD to be supporting churches, they have a really good mission. So if my meager time contributions here (as just another blogger) benefit the site, the member churches, or even the individual users, I am being used by God, which leaves me overjoyed!

God bless you and your endeavors, Joe!

I like the new layout, although my voice is not as loud as churches, I still say thanks!!!!!

And as Mike n Laura said, it is free, why complain! I could understand all the complaints if they were paying for the use of the site.... but they don't.

All the complaints I was reading kind of reminded me of what Moses had to contend with, all the murmuring.  arrrgggg

Hi Joe, thanks for your personal opinion. Thanks too for the work you are doing to make the web a place for churches to have a voice. I think that is a great ministry. I am not a leader or a lay leader of my own church and my church isn't on this site though I'm on here as an individual and have enjoyed it immensely so far. If the site no longer works for me in future, I will move on...no worries as I understand you are not developing a site for individuals but for churches. In the meantime, I'll enjoy what you have here.

I'm not one that is complaining but after reading this blog I now understand clearer, other blogs complaining about the changes. What do you think the Church is??? Individuals make up the church! Aren't we as Christians suppose to be serving the body of Christ? We are members of those church buildings that you are claiming to serve. If this site chooses to serve a building well then....GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!

Joyful Servant - of course you are welcome here even if your church isn't on (yet).

Angela - yes, people make up the church.  Not sure how you read that we're serving church buildings...

This is how I read that " I hope they realize we are not necessarily serving them.  We are serving churches." I do apoligize if I read too much into it but it comes across very much so that way...at least to me.

(to me, "serving churches" means serving organized groups of people which constitute various local manifestations of the body of Christ ... that's how I read that)

Yes but Mike my point is this whole thing is when Joe says "These conversations have been very insightful for me to understand their pains and needs.  Not only do these churches give us feedback on our current product, but they give feedback on our future product as well." Where do you think their pains and needs come from? They come from the individuals that make up the church. I don't want to argue about  this, I am going through a major crisis in my life and can't afford to waste any energy on a social network that doesn't serve the body of Christ as individiuals but groups them up by denominations. Lately this whole sight has put a very bad taste in my mouth.

Thank you for sharing this, Joe.  Changes to the site, by way of how you guys have it set up, WON'T make me leave.  I've been on a couple other Christian sites (that time I left here for a few months), and this one is far better by way of warmth and a sense of family.  Kudos.  You can't please everyone, but you are at least listening to what we are saying.  Thank you for that. :)

That clarifies why and how the changes are coming.  I think the individuals need to realize that we basically are guests on here as individuals.  The only think I would suggest is to realize that we individuals comprise the local church.  My church that introduced this site to me never really used it as much as I did.  It gave me a great venue to preach and teach without walls!  Awesome! I would be willing to pay to have a personal web page etc...maybe I could do that through you anyway.  I can't stand myspace too much garbage etc...facebook is good because it is kind of user friendly, but I like the fact that this is "Christian" and we get to discuss "Christian" topics at large.  The changes are not all that great in my mind, but I am just a user like Mike said, you don't owe me anything.  I appreciate the venue. God bless and God bless y'alls ministry.

Yes, thank you... I have contacted support on a couple of other sites, and well..... I am still waiting for a reply... at least here, support gets back to us.... it may not always be with an answer we necessarily like, but at least you do reply.

Individuals are responsible members of chruch.so both are like both side of a coine.

To equip the body of christ for advanceing mission commitment.

I prayed about this situation last night.  Alot of phrases went through my mind, but as I prayed, I realized that people are just petty - too caught up in their own lives and themselves to understand that there is much larger world.

I'm grateful to able to blog here.  I'm grateful that my church joined, so that I have the privilege to write my blogs.

Folks, it's not about you and what you want.  It's about something much BIGGER.

I did Mike and I just want to clarify pubicly that I AM NOT IN AN UPROAR OR EVEN UPSET IN THE LEAST WITH THE CHANGES! I was upset with the way this blog came across to me. I don't like all the changes but they do not upset me. I am not on this sight because the status were on the right, ect. I am on this sight to encourage and be encouraged by my brothers and sisters in Christ. The only thing I do wish was differant in reguards to the setup are the way the blogs are because this is how we get to know people and are able to build up and encourage them when they are going through difficult times, due to the recent changes I feel we've lost that connection. I also feel that because we lost that connection there has been a lot of turmoil and disention. Maybe I'm wrong but what I mean by this sight leaving a bad taste in my mouth is the lack of God being glorified, brothers and sisters being built up and encourage, ect. lately through blogs and comments and I feel it is a direct result of a connection lost :( I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone or be selfish this is just how I feel.

oh and by the wat if you reread the last comment you will see that I said I can't afford to waste any energy on a sight that doesn't serve the church as individuals but groups them together by denominations...not that I can't waste energy on the indiviaduals...I love you all!

When people come together, they are the church.  Its not a building - or even an individual for that matter, although individually speaking need help, but a group of people coming together for the one cause.  Many people, one cause, that's the church.

:) Stevie...that is probally exactly what Joe ment by this blog. I gotta say I for one am sick and tired of reading blogs about how upset people are cause "someone moved their cheese" What happened to the blogs about sharing what God is doing in people's lives...perhaps they are there and I just can't find them lol. Seriously though our purpose is to bring glory to God through our lives, our cause is Jesus Christ! After some of the blogs I've been reading latly I feel like mins. of my life has been wasted that I will never get back again. Lets get back to work church and stop this maddness!!! I just want to see the spirit here return to just that!

Note to self: Proofread next time

I would say I'm a bit confused by the "church vs. individual" thing as well.  Probably because if it is anyone's "job" from my church to get others from my church here... well it's probably me.  And I'm guessing I'm not alone among individuals.

If this is supposed to be the social community of the (my) church (which maybe I'm making an assumption there) one of the important things is that the individuals from my church feel comfortable there and that they were heard.  If not why am I directing them here.  If this is supposed to be yet another website for the church, well... I (personally) don't have time to do two websites.

I guess the picture I'm stuck with in my head is of a church ordering pews and they come, but what is noticed is that every few feet there are a couple of tack points from where the cushions were fastened.  The people in the church are going to be the ones uncomfortable (and "complaining") but the pews are what the church asked for.  I realize that's not a great analogy because I don't mean to suggest things are defective, but I do think the people in the pews are having trouble focusing.)

Sorry if that seems negative, but that's how it appears.  I don't have any complaints with the changes although it did take me a while to figure out how to go find a friend's blog.  I'm pretty sure I still took the long way around (throwing out the misteps, profile name, page through 5 pages of friends until I found her, click on her, page down (luckily it's still on the first page)), but it was alright because at time I was saying "Cannot Sleep". (This time I just relied on Google).

Joe, what might be helpful is since we have been told what we are not (in your view of the site)... Well what are we then?   We're obviously not products as you mention with pageviews.  We're not consumers (unless it's of other consumers writing).

I can't speak for Joe but my guess is all he is saying is that it is the "church" institutions that pay for this site. They pay about $100. a month to have this site exist. The rest of us are riding on the church's coatstrings and using this site for free. I think Joe probably knows that we Christians are the church and we make up the institutions (at least some do and other's worship at home). The main point is that we individuals do not pay and someone has to pay to have a site like this up and running. One thing I have noticed though is that it is individuals who seem to use this site more than actual church bodies....and it is a great site in general so I can't really complain about. (Though I can make my feelings known and hope and pray that the developers see the feedback as helpful).

Joe I apprecitate what you do...but I am confused over the changes..I have no problem serving Chruches because that is what I do as a Pastor. My concern is the loss of conrol over my Home Page..I can't find blogs I have written for my church and for others like my study on Revelation. These blogs were written to serve the church not me. I suppose I am vocal because the Moderator of the local church are losing control over the contents of their church sites...This is a valid concern. I don't invest time and money in my church my as personal recreation. The Church's Page should fulfill the need to address church needs but the Home Page run by the Moderator needs to geared to meet the needs of that paricular subscriper....People that are dissatisfied are not  being vocal out of a sense of criticism or mean spirited.....As Moderator of my Site I want more control over how my site is used ( it it not a personal issue). Yet when I see many of the features church members like disapearing of course I am concerned because they are the ones paying of the service...I am asking for more customer inout which allows each site to customize to meet it paricular need. Maybe it is just me but I am lost when I go to my Home Page, and have little control over what I see are essentials. I want to stay with mychurch and see it grow. Some of the concerns are very valid. I have written you and Sue personally over my confusion out of love for you and the site and just needed some clarification. A lot of folks do not understand the changes and no doubt some have left because they do not have a grasp on what the goal of my church are. I am not one of these, but would like to know how to get back some of the features I think made mychurch stand out and be different. This is only my opionion. I just need some help in knowing how to find my blogs, friends, profile, and other features that I think are important to site Moderators. I am asking for help and do not feel for a moment that what I say is criticism in any sense of the word...I love, recommend and appreciate this site and love every soul on it! Thanks for getting back with me and helping me understand. Love Pastor Chuck

is there a way, or a possibility to have an option to go back individually to an old format or the new format?

like the way igoogle does?

One last observation and then I'll leave it alone.

I'm not sure how to give honest feedback on here with out being viewed as critical.  I realize it's quite possible that we'll have different opinions until it doesn't matter anymore, but I don't give my "differing" opinion especially on a blog like this because I'm trying to beat someone up.  I for the most part have enjoyed my time here, but it's gotten tough as friends have left.  And I wasn't kidding when I said that if my church were to show up here I would probably have to be the driving force (I hate saying that because it sounds arrogant, but from a technology standpoint I also know who has driven the issues in the past).  The main reason I say it is because I'm sure I'm not the only one.

But as time has gone by, the bug forum went away, and I've struggled to get answers (probably because I've been viewed as being critical from the beginning.  And the message given here is that our feedback well be taken less into account going forward because we're not the customer.

I realize it's hard because I'm sure everyone wants something different (or they want it the way it always was), but if people's ability to give feedback and ideas go away (or people think it has gone away), a valuable resource is gone.

I'm also thinking that as a Christian, we are still afraid to fail.  I don't know if it's because we think it's a negative reflection on God or what, but I think it's created a culture of paralyzed Christianity.

Anyways, I'm sure that's more than anyone wanted to know.

add http://www.mychurch.org/mychurchteam as a friend, then post them a private message, I have and have gotten a reply quite quickly. I have contacted many support teams, due to the job I have, and I have to say, mychurch support is very good at what they do.!!
