Happiness vs. holiness

There are many Christians wallowing knee-deep in sin who excuse their sin by saying, “But God wants me to be happy.” Then they splash away in their muck and mire of their disobedience, either ignorant or ignoring the warning of a loving God who wants to clean them up and save them from suffocating in their own filth.

   Yes, God wants you to be happy. But first and foremost, God wants you to be holy. And true happiness comes through holiness.

 

12:14 Strive for peace with all men, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

Preach on Preacher!!!! What an awesome sermon that was Sunday. It really spoke to me. I could tell you really preached it from your heart. It was powerful, bold, and clear. Striving to be Holy is very hard, but I am trying my best to walk in His ways not mine. I am so glad that He is so merciful and that He saved a wretch like me. I am forgiven and free. I pray that I can please Him in all that I do.

Thank you. Becky made reference to my sermon. This quotation is actually the opening paragraph of the sermon I preached last Sunday entitled, "How to Be Holy Without Being Holier-than-Thou."
