| To stop a thief, OR NOT |
|
| |
If a thief steals from us, are we allowed to use force to prevent someone taking what belongs to us? Christ said: 6:28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. 6:29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the [one] cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not [to take thy] coat also. 6:30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask [them] not again. smiteth: toop'-to primary verb (in a strengthened form); to “thump”, that is, cudgel or pummel (properly with a stick or bastinado), but in any case by repeated blows; thus differing from paio and patasso, which denote a [usually single] blow with the hand or any instrument, or plesso with the fist [or a hammer], or rhapidzo with the palm; as well as from tugchano, an accidental collision); by implication to punish; figuratively to offend (the conscience): - beat, smite, strike, wound.
taketh: airō A primary verb; to lift; by implication to take up or away; figuratively to raise (the voice), keep in suspense (the mind); specifically to sail away (that is, weigh anchor); by Hebraism (compare nasa nasah) to expiate sin: - away with, bear (up), carry, lift up, loose, make to doubt, put away, remove, take (away, up).
forbid not: kōluō From the base of kolazo; to estop, that is, prevent (by word or act): - forbid, hinder, keep from, let, not suffer, withstand.
So according to scripture, if someone takes what belongs to us, we are not to stop them, nor to prevent them from taking anything else. |

| So according to your theory...if my child is kidnapped, I just don't bother to try to find him. Just let it go...it's God's will? |

Does your child belong to you? Or does the child belong to the Lord. If the child means more to you than the Lord, then all I can say is pray that the Lord fixes your heart. Our belongings and friends, and even our families, we should hate, in comparison to the love we are to have for the Lord. If the "state" were to come in and kidnap my son, would I fight? According to scripture, I am not allowed to. If someone comes into my house, and rapes my wife, and kills my son, I am required to forgive him. Anything less, means I am not in Him, and He is not in me. This is why He said the road is narrow, for it is difficult to NOT hold onto the things of this world, but in order to follow Him, we must! |

Todays verse fits into this too. 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 91:2 I will say of the LORD, [He is] my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. We should always trust in Him, and not in our own understanding. For He is our safe place. |

[star!] | I have to admit I'm glad my husband went after the guy who stoled my wedding ring and got it back. We never pressed charges. so am I glad he disobeyed? Selfishly, yes. My wedding band is my....wedding band. We've been ripped off plenty and let ppl do it, but this guy crossed the line as far as my hubby was concerned. lol Let's see how many Christians would have done the right thing in this case. A few yes, but fewer would do the right, then the wrong, me thinks. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. |

The flesh is difficult to suppress, because it wants self preservation at ANY cost. Paul tells us we must cruscify the flesh, because if we don't, we are slaves of ourselves.And not His servants.Thus, not allowing Him to be LORD. I too have been selfish, and am learning day by day, to NOT follow what my flesh wants, but rather what Christ wants. |

| And if someone tried to take my kid from me, I'd probably kill them. Sad, but true. |

I hear what you are saying Lara, it would be difficult NOT to strike back. Therein lies the narrow way. Hopefully you will never have to go through this, but if you do, I pray the Lord gives you the strength and courage to do what Christ says we must do. |

There is a difference between a cloak and a child, Gary. Ultimately, everything belongs to God (the earth and the fulness thereof.) But if the state or anyone else, for that matter, kidnaps my child(ren), you'd better believe I am going to fight! Lara, I'm with you, girl, and I don't think it's sad. I think God gave children parents for a reason. And I am assuming you would attempt to prevent the rape and murder of your wife and son if someone came into your house? Even if you had to fight? |

I would stand between the intruder and my family. But ultimately our lives are in God's hands. Would I stop someone from stealing from me? According to scripture, I can't. But I have not had this happen to me, but if it does, I pray the Lord to give me the strength to do as He would have me do according to His Word. Would I kill, no, I don't think so. If you asked me the same question a year ago, I probably would say yes, I would kill for what was MINE. But I have been doing some real soul searching, and studying. So my outlook has changed. I am sorry to hear that the smoke is still a problem. Father, I thank you in faith, for resolving the issue with the outdoor furnaces at Marcella's. I also thank you in faith for a total healing for her and her family. |

Hi Gary Robison ~ When Our Savior, Christ Jesus, With Violence Whipped these people out of the Temple area for being Theives, what do You believe they were stealing, and, what lesson example do You think He was teaching us?
John 2:15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
2And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. Matthew 21:12-13........{Bro-ken}

Ken, He said that the money changers had made the Temple into a den of thieves. Or rather into a house for robbers. As to why He did it. These moneychangers were making it hard for the poor, selling sacrifice animals like doves and cattle for too much, ripping people off. Changing Roman money into Hebrew coins. Because Roman coins were not allowed into the Temple. Is it any different when churches today setup their tables, selling their worship cd's? If you have money you can buy a worship tapes, or posters, but growing up we didn't, so we always went home feeling left out. :-( Or, as one church I visited, they setup a Starbucks Coffee in the sanctuary. |

| The people could not keep their hearts and minds on the Lord, being more concerned about not getting ripped off. |

Kimberly, you are correct, the thieves have to pay at judgment. But when we allow flesh to get involved, are we not any better than the heathen, as Christ said.... also when we take back what was stolen, then we loose the reward we would have gotten in heaven..... to me, an eternal reward is more important than jewlry, money, or anything else..... at least to me..... |
