| A conversation with Timothy.... |
|
| |
Timothy: Why did God make rain?
Me: To water the plants.
Timothy: Why did God make plants?
Me: To give us and animals plant to eat, to help clean the air, and to give us shade from the hot sun.
Timothy: Why did God make bugs?
Me: To give other bugs and aminals food to eat.
Timothy: Why did God make bees?
Me: To give us honey and to help grow the flowers.
Timothy: Why did God give us noses?
Me: So we can smell all the wonderful things God made.
Timothy: Why did God give us feet?
Me: So you can walk and run and play.
Etc.... etc.... etc....
I love those conversations with Timothy. It helps us both realize that God created everything in this world for a perfect purpose. We have this conversation at least once per day -- sometimes more often.
However, for the past few days, the questions have become more difficult:
Timothy: Why did God make bad movies?
Me: God didn't make bad movies. God doesn't want bad movies, but sometimes people make bad movies.
Timothy: Why did God make bad video games?
Me: God didn't make bad video games. God doesn't want there to be bad video games, but sometimes people make bad video games.
Timothy: Why did God make bad people?
....after a little thought on how to answer this one.....
Me: God didn't make bad people. God does not want people to be bad. God wants us all to be good, but some people decide they do not want to be good. That makes God sad because he loves us and wants us to all be good.
****** My goodness - he is only four and is already trying to grasp why there is sin in the world......
I love to hear his little voice when is typical questions begin with "Why does God..." He already realizes that God has a part of everything. He doesn't just ask why is there rain. He asks why God made the rain. It's so sweet to hear. I am reminded of Mark 10:13-16
10:13 And they were bringing children to him, that he might touch them; and the disciples rebuked them. 10:14 But when Jesus saw it he was indignant, and said to them, "Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 10:15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." 10:16 And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands upon them.
