The Old Testament Laws and covenants vs. The New Testament Laws and covenants
In the Old testament God deals with the outer person. The New Testament God deals with the inner person.
Here are some examples:- The Old Testament times, the circumcision of the male genitals caused one to become part of Abraham’s covenant with G-d. vs. The New Testament, circumcision is of the human heart and causes one to become covenanted with G-d directly.
The Old Testament the Laws were written in stone (See the book of Exodus chapter 20). vs The New Testament, the Laws are written on our hearts and in our minds by G-d himself (see the book of Hebrews chapter 8), and the Holy Spirit in the born-again believer will bring up the Word to remind us so now, we have no excuse (see the book of John chapter14).
The Old Testament Laws the Worldly Temple made was made with earthly things, which had a veil separating the Holy from the Holy of Holies. Only the high Priest had access into the Holy of Holies behind the veil, once a year to offer sin sacrifice for the people and they all died because they did not have the Holy Spirit in them and the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse them. Therefore, just being in the presence of G-d caused them to die (see the books of Exodus, Leviticus and Deuteronomy). vs. The New Testament, when Jesus died the veil in the earthly Temple was torn from top to bottom allowing everyone access to G-d (see the books of Matthew chapter 27 and Luke chapter 23). Now the bodies of the born-again believer becomes the Temple of the Holy Spirit. That is why the Word tells us that if we defile the temple (our bodies), G-d will destroy us (see 1 Corinthians chapter 6).
The Old Testament Laws they had to sacrifice the blood of animals every year to atone for the sins of humanity. vs The New Testament Jesus offered His body and blood once, as the human sacrifice for the atonement of the sins of all human beings who would come to Him in true repentance. That is why we are told if we willfully sin, after knowing the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for those sins (see the book of Hebrews chapters 6 and 10).
In the Old Testament Laws if a man divorced his wife and she got married to another man, she could not go back to the first husband because she would be considered defiled (see the book of Deuteronomy chapter 24). vs The New Testament Laws, if a man or woman got divorced , they cannot get re-married (see the books of Mark chapter 10, Luke chapter16, Romans chapter7, 1 Corinthians chapter 7). They must remain unmarried, or go back to the original spouse, or they will be committing adultery.
In the Old Testament Laws if a man and woman is found committing adultery, they were stoned to death. vs The New Testament Laws Jesus said if we look to lust we commit adultery in our hearts (see the book of Matthew chapter 5).
These are just some of the Laws and covenants that were changed. Some say we are in a period of Grace and the blood of Jesus Christ will wash away all sins. When we come to Jesus Christ and truly repent of old sins yes, His blood will atone for those sins. However, after we are filled with the Holy Spirit and born-again we have NO excuse. Even our idle words will be judged. If we trample under our foot the blood of Jesus Christ, I believe that our fate will be worse than those of the Old Testament, because they had the excuse of not having the blood of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and the Word written on their hearts and minds. G-d has provided all that we need to cause us to live righteously. We have NO excuse to continue a life of sin. It is my sincere prayer that Jesus Christ be lifted up at all times.
