Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that I am still alive but sitting is a REAL pain in butt; literally. Just so there are no false "rumors" going around about my absence, I thought I'd do a short blog about my current situation. My full medical journey, beginning in April 2005, is found here. Every step of the way, actually a revolution of the wheel, God has been in control and He has used my "new assignment" in His ministry in an awesome way; always!
A little over two months ago, my doctor spotted what we all though was a pressure sore from sitting too long in one position in my wheelchair. Over time, we all thought it might also be a cyst forming or a boil developing. Last week, things quickly deteriorated and I was "shipped off" to a surgeon. It turns out I had a very serious gland infection that led to a Perianal Abscess that required out-patient surgery.
I now have a 1/4 inch diameter hole that is almost 2 inches deep on one of my bottom cheeks. It is a wonder that my body does not deflate due to the depth of that hole. LOL
A nurse now sees me at home on a daily basis to "repack" the hole to promote drainage and assist with healing. I won't go into details but it is literally a pain in the butt! My weekend nurse that came yesterday was a diesel mechanic in the military during Desert Storm and explained some of my questions by using a 5W-30 versus 10W-40 oil viscosity comparison. Gotta love a nurse that can explain things to a geeky guy like me in terms that I could understand. She was great! I was relieved to know that my engine did not need a rebuild and should have a lot of miles still left on it. :) TYJ!
This coming Wednesday, I see the surgeon again to determine if additional surgery will be required to remove the entire gland. Prayers will be appreciated that this additional, more intrusive surgery, will not be needed. Even if more surgery is needed, I'm positive that God has somebody for me to "meet" in the OR and share the Good News with! :) Yes, God is in control with His PERFECT plan!
You might see me online more often but I may not be able to get to the keyboard. I'm going to have somebody log me in each day so when I do get out of bed for 15 minutes every 3 or 4 hours to keep my joints from freezing, I might try to slip in a reply or comment. I do need to move around periodically or my diesel mechanic nurse might have to replace my ball joints! LOL
Thanks for your continued prayers and hope to be back online full time before September gets here. I had 783 E-mail messages and all but 38 were valid messages that I would normally read. At this point in time, I don't know what I'm going to do with the unread E-mail messages. I just hate to not reply to everyone that has requested a reply. Decisions, decisions, decisions...
Please keep praying for me and may God bless all of you!

Hey Dave, I said a prayed for you. It sounds like you need a ministry helper to volunteer their time to help you read those emails. Maybe you need to prepare for the harvest? Blessings, Prudence |

Hey Dave!! Glad your sense of humor is still intact. Pick up some voice software. I bet you can even find some on line. There is software out there that will read your emails to you. It is pretty inexpensive. It won't reply to them for you, but you can at least go through them. I am sure you are aware that there is other software that is voice recognition software, too.
In any case, you remain in my prayers until you are no longer a pain in the rear.....or something like that... |

Thanks everyone for the prayers! My nurse just left and said the wound is still draining nicely so the next big hurdle will be my mid-week doctor's visit.
I am so thankful to have such a wonderful "cyber-family" that stretches worldwide! God bless you all!
Your friend, Dave
P.S. voice_in_dc, I need to see you out back after dark this evening... LOL ;-) |

Here is a short Wednesday update based on my earlier comment of:
"This coming Wednesday, I see the surgeon again to determine if additional surgery will be required to remove the entire gland. Prayers will be appreciated that this additional, more intrusive surgery, will not be needed. Even if more surgery is needed, I'm positive that God has somebody for me to "meet" in the OR and share the Good News with! :) Yes, God is in control with His PERFECT plan!"
Well Wednesday has arrived and I received a good report from the surgeon! TYJ!
The infection has cleared up and I no longer require the "packing" to drain the wound. I'll still have an open wound for another month or so due to being a diabetic which causes a slower healing process (according to the medical community - - not God). That means I still need to be careful and keep the area covered with sterile gauze.
If, and the medical community says there is a 90% possibility of this, IF the gland becomes infected again, then I go under the knife while asleep to have that little bothersome thingie removed. I understand that I have plenty more glands and this one is not really required. Sooooo...
Unless God has a Plan for me to visit the OR in the future, I'll be returning to my "normal" level of activity in the next few days. PRAISE GOD!
Hey gang, I'm baaaaacccccckkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
