| Pretending control......... |

Rodger's initial unemployment has run out.... we knew it was going to happen and we knew when it was going to happen. So of course...me being an "all my ducks in a row" kinda gal, I wanted Rodger to apply for the extension ahead of time, but unemployment doesn't work that way. We had to actually receive the very last check before he could apply for the extension. I didn't let it bug me... oh... it tried to bug me but I kept pushing it out of my head you know? So the last check comes and Rodger starts calling the unemployment office... over and over and over and over again.... but the phones were busy except for a recording telling us that if we cant speak to anyone we can go to the website... Ha! You can see where this is going cant' you? Rodger ended up applying online for the extension. Which meant we couldn't ask anyone any questions, we couldn't find out his chances of being approved or when the first check might come, or anything...it was very frustrating!
Then.... our air conditioner broke down...
What does that have to do with Rodger's unemployment? I asked myself that very thing... I'm almost as frustrated about the air conditioner as I am about not knowing about Rodger's unemployment. I could give you a list of reasons why we must have an air conditioner... very very hot weather.... extreme heat gives me migraines.... my parents will be visiting this week and both are elderly making a hot house very uncomfortable for them... those are good reasons but they aren't the REASON. The problem is I can't control when it gets fixed. I cant even call the repair man because we are renting, it's not up to me...so... I have to wait...all the while not having any idea whats happening or what will happen. I'm out of the loop so to speak.
Why is this such a problem? Why am I so bothered about it? If I knew all the particulars about the unemployment extension or the air conditioning repair would it change anything? Of course not. But it would give me the illusion that I could control something or change something... that by "keeping my eye on it" I could head off any snags that might pop up.... it would be up to me...in my hands.... under my control. In other words... there's no one that can do a better job of taking care of me (us) then....me....
Once I actually put it in those words, I was able to see what a "lie" that was. There are many times I'm sure God wants me to "control" things He gives me to control. So making an effort to handle things isn't wrong. But hasn't my Father already shown me that even when I have no idea of whats happening that He will choose whats best?
Wow... I feel like I'm on a steep learning curve.... and I kinda like it =) |

[star!] | Amen... you could see the difference.
Question: Since you're renting, it would seem to me that the owners of the home are responsible for getting the A/C repaired.
Robin, I promise.... you and your family are going to make it through this dry season. God will provide.
Love, Joey |

[star!] | I'll be praying God would give you peace even in all this. We think the trials are over for a bit, and then BAM! More. On a more practical side, there are those dual fans shaped like a long rectangle that you can put in windows. They actually DO work. They ain't an air conditioner, but they work better than normal fans. Here in Canada a few years ago you could get them for $30, but you gotta think we got mega taxes compared to you, so likely cheaper there. Anyways, the Lord knows your needs, so we just pray He pulls off the miraculous on your behalf! |

Isn't it awesome how the Lord allows these little snags to come up. And then to look back and see the leaps of faith we have grown. It is ALWAYS miserable while we endure the testing of our faith, but so wondrous when it bears fruit! I am self employed, so every day is a prayer day for work, because when I don't work, no money....... but also when I am not working, like right now, I am usually here..... growing in the Lord! Last week, I had $28.00 or so in the bank, and rent was due this last Friday, well, you know what, as always, the Lord brought in just enough to pay rent ($600.00), now I am praying for electric (2 months past due), then vacuum payment, then bed payment, phone bill, then cable (internet), and always praying I will have enough gas to get to my next appointment (I am a computer consultant... on-site repairs) Being broke is wonderful, because it MAKES me have to stay close to Him. I have been well off before, but never this close to Him. He is always sufficient, and always on time (His time of course) |

Ahhh thanks guys....
Joey... yes we contacted our landlord and thats what we're waiting on.... hopefully the wait won't be too long.... thanks =))
Lara.... With over 100 degrees here buying fans would not be a good idea. The air in the house is cooler then outside untill about 3pm. But we do have an OLD window airconditioner and 1 window that it can fit in (which happens to be Melody's bedroom window) so Rodger has temporarily put it there and we use it during those hours that it gets unbearable. Hahaha we spend alot of time in Melody's bedroom. But it is just temporary.... the rest of the house gets unbearable....we can "survive"..I'm just a worry wart =P
Megan... thanks so much =) |

Robinjoy, I always welcome prayers, and I do thank you. I know that I know He will always come through for us, one way or the other. And if for some reason, I end up in the street, I know He has a plan for that too, we never know where He will lead us next, just have to have faith that He is ALWAYS in control! The faith walk is the best roller-coaster ride ever! |

Hey Robin, I've heard from good sources that the big square box fan in the window trick is great! The trick is to have more than one and to have windows on either side of the house, through which the air can flow. I haven't done it myself because I don't have the right kind of windows. My mom lives in a city where they regularly get 100 F. temperatures through the summer months...she mostly has to rely on a fan as the air con doesn't really work and it is old (rental place and the landlord won't replace it),. I have another thought about the EI...here in Canada, you can actually check your status on line and also how much you get etc...as well as submit the reports they want. Maybe they also have this service in Cali. This isn't so you can have the illusion of control *smile but so that you can know what the answer it when it comes out rather than wait for snail mail. Just a thought. God bless you sis! |

Okay..that is really too bad...because it sure beats waiting on the telephone. But if your husband has a PIN, hopefully he can still get the information from the automated telephone system if he calls in the times below...every few days or so. This is the info. I got from the Cali website "Benefit check information is available using our automated telephone system and you will need a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to access your information. You create your PIN using the automated telephone system. Check information is available Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. (All times are Pacific Time.) If you have not received your check or any response from EDD within 10 days of mailing your Continued Claim Form, DE 4581, contact EDD. Also contact EDD immediately if you lose your check." |

ahhh Penny your such a sweetheart =)... I looked up the info you gave me... Its very confusing because it says you dont have to do anything because the extension will be automatically filed for you. But we received nothng in the mail as far as a denial or a letter stating they automatically filed..... and as far as getting by on the phone ....forget it...
haha but guess what?!? Rodger just checked the mail and there was a letter saying he was approved for up to 20 more weeks of benefits starting in two weeks yay!!!
Ok then God.... now on to the air conditioner hehe =]] |

| Praise God, Robin. How like our God to provide :-) Hope you can get a couple of good fans or that your old air conditioner works. It helps to keep the doors/windows closed and curtains draw well before the hottest parts of the day, esp. with the air con. on. One good trick I use at mom's is to keep a couple of white face clothes damp and them put them in the freezer...then i use them on mom's neck and forehead (and mine) when we simply get too hot. These take so little time to rewet and freeze enough for use. Your mom and dad might need this tip. |

[star!] | Hi Rob It is really nice to hear what God is doing in your life again. I was reading this and I thought to myself, This gal really must be my long lost sister. lol I can toatally relate to those thoghts you were sharing about " I know how to take care of us best" God after all is pre occupied with so many other things that He misses the details of my life. Yes I'm sure many of us have heard the lies being spoke in our minds against the very one who loves more than we ourselves do. God really loves you even when your air conditioner breaks. Keep listening for His voice my friend.
