5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. This passage reminds me that everyday we are being watched. Every minute someone is watching how we handle a situation. People learn a lot about our God from the way we treat one another. I have had several friends who have decided that being a Christian is a bad thing due to the actions of others. I don't think this is an appropriate response to God (to Christians it may be) but it is unfortunately true. The actions we engage in brightly shine to the world. The question we have to ask ourselves is whether we will shine for Christ or ourselves. As a follower of Christ, we cannot just hide from the world in some little corner and hope that we can just get by in life. We are the light of the world. God has chosen us to be used to spread the gospel. That means through our words and actions we are able to share the truth of who He is with the world around us. Really we have no choice in the matter. We have been set apart and people will in time notice something different about you. Some belief you hold close to your heart would betray you to those who come close to you. Why don't we just live for Christ from the start? If we profess a faith in Him, then let's sincerely live for Him and share that with the world around us. It is so tempting to want to just hole up somewhere with this and let no one know about it, but that is not realistic at all. In time Christ will cause you to encounter someone for the sake of the gospel. How will we respond? Will we hide or show the world what we believe? |
