| Let Your Light So |

As a Professor of mine once said, you may be the only Christ someone may ever see. What he meant was that our witness may be the only one that touches some people. There are some folks I cannot reach no matter how much I may try. Yet you may be the one to reach the person others cannot. My brother encouraged me to rent the movie, "Gran Torino." The language is horrible but the moral wonderful. It is about one man's ultimate sacrifice for those he loved. You will have to rent it for yourself....Hang in there till the end and you will see how important our witness truely is. We live in a day and time in which so many put other things before their commitment to Christ, but this is not what Jesus wants..Our witness is to be like a light on the hill. We are to let our light so shine, not hide it...Thanks to all of you who do that and truely seek the Kingdom of God first not just with lip service but with action...Love to all! Pastor Chuck5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. |

[star!] | hmm, thank you for the recommendation. We watch very few movies, given the usual horrible content (language, sexuality, disregard for human life, etc.) and worldly messages. So I am not even familiar with what is showing or available on dvd. We'll look for that one at the library. Great post as usual, Pastor Chuck!! |

[star!] | Great thought Pastor Chuck... All Christians should be "spiritual" lightning bugs... (smile)

[star!] | Cool! there is a Christian company that filters out bad language on movies isn't there? There are many good movies providing a Christian message which are just spoilt by filthy language and it just 'turns me off' completely. |

| Chuck, I went to see that movie shortly after it came out with a group of young people from our church. Needless to say, we got up and walked out because of the language. My wife and I went back later and watched it and like you said it's a really good movie with a wonderful message. Thanks PC |

Hi Pastor Chuck. Yes there's a message in that movie, and I like Lara's comment about lifestyle. As I've always said, action speaks louder than words. I'm curious though Tim. You state that you went with a group of young people from your church - and needless to say we got up and walked out because of the language. Counteracted by saying, my wife and I went back later and watched it and like you've said it's a really good movie with a wonderful message. Was the reason you walked out the first time because you were with church people? And was the reason you went back cos you wasn't? Yet (and here's the thing I'm trying to get at) it still contained the same bad language in it, didn't it?
What I'm trying to get at here is, people (not just you Tim) seem to do (or act) one way with some people (church people for example), but do something totally the opposite when they're not around. Yet with or without those same people being around, the same message applies (the movie for example). So going back to the movie. Was the reason you walked out the movie because it contained bad language coupled with who you were with? Or was the reason you went back because it was a good movie coupled with the story behind it, yet void of those people being around you when you went to see it first? So what attracted you to it? It was kind of a mixed message being put across when I read what you wrote. Because if it was solely for bad languages purposes that you walked out, you wouldn't have gone back for a second dose, would you? And for the record, I watched a film called "Crash" which had bad language in it, but it also had a message behind it. In short, it contained all types of "law abiding" citizens of one kind or another, and the one person you thought would never do something about something - is the one person who did do something about it, and he wasn't a law abiding citizen. So there's a message in there as well. The one's you thought would get it - don't, but the one's you thought would never get it in a million years, do. Well that's the message I got when I saw it. There's also a message in the bible that talks about it, but I'll let you look that one up. :o) |

| Stevie actually we left because we were with young people, not because the language. I went back because I had a feeling there was a good message there. The language didn't hinder my walk with God but I didn't want it to hinder anyone else's. I deal with much worse language in the work place every day. The reason I went back was to see the end of the movie, and I am glad I did. I don't think it would be a very good movie for young, immature christians to see. It is no different in my home, I will watch some movies with bad languge, providing there are no young people here or lost people either. |

Hi Tim. I hear what you say, and I know what you mean about the workplace. I said something to someone only the other day - that I work for a company from hell. Never in my lifetime have I met people that are so naffed off and so bad-tempered, and when the egg hits the fan - every other sentence starts with an "F". So when that happens - I switch off. I may be in it - but not of it, and it also goes for the country I live in. I am in it - but not of it, because there's some things I don't agree with that are happening. But sad to say, living in the UK - we're all tarred with the same brush. So I know what you mean, and I agree with your "young, immature" comment. |

[star!] | I love your message, because it's true, Pastor Chuck. I think of the hundeds and hundreds of people I've and talked to in the last ten years.
It makes you stop and wonder... I know many people who touched my life. They made a difference. I want to do the same thing.
I'll try to watch the movie. God bless you. |
