| Blind obedience to government authority is very dangerous |
|
| |
3:1 Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for any honest work, Scripture should always be balanced with Scripture. Bilnd obedience to government authority is very dangerous.
As Christians our first loyality is to God -- to obey Him. The early Christians were persecuted because they refused to obey government authorities and say "Caesar is Lord." Instead they boldly disobeyed and stated "Jesus is Lord."
When Peter and John were commanded not to preach any more about Jesus, they told the authorities, "We must obey God rather than man."
We should also obey our conscience before government. We should never obey immoral laws.
In America too many people blindly obeyed the immoral law of slavery and held people in cruel and evil bondage. A few brave souls, mainly Christians, rose up and blodly declared that slavery was evil and should be abolished. These abolitionists men and women were like Old Testament prophets, proclaiming God's truth and refusing to go along with government backed immorality.
We are fortunate in America to have a strong tradition of civil disobedience. As Christians we must stand for rightousness and God's morality no matter what government says or does.
Sometimes confrontation is God's will. Check out this link about: "Charles Stanley confronts casual Christianity." http://www.examiner.com/x-19568-Nashville-Evangelical-Examiner~y2009m8d20-Charles-Stanley-confronts-casual-Christianity

[star!] | Steve,
HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY someone besides myself is saying the same thing that I am! You said,"Scripture should be ballanced with Scripture. Blind obedience to the government is very dangerous". I could not agree with you more.
How many Christians have embraced erroneous Theology coming from Pastors that choose to protect their non-profit status rather than their freedoms that God has call ALL of us in America to steward. It is precisely the reason why we have "Sauls" at all levels of authority. Since we need to balance Scripture with Scripture, Proverbs 29:2 says
29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
Which begs the question to asked, "How much happiness do you see"? Could it be that the righteous are NOT in authority?
Just a thought.

| We ought to obey God rather than man, this was said after the disciples took a beating and were told to preach no more in Jesus name. The more corrupted the government becomes, the harder, it will be to keep man made laws that oppose thus saith the Lord. The government needs to control the people to get us ready for the mark of the beast that's coming according to Revelations 13. How many Christians have no problem with legalized abortions? Same sex marriages? |

Amen Steve, We are to submit to God first, and then to government. Even though they were told not to preach the name of Jesus, they did not protest, riot, or in any way did they become rebellious. (bitterness, that is, (figuratively) rebellion; concretely bitter, or rebellious: - bitter, (most) rebel (-ion, -lious). |

[star!] | Excellent word again I say 'We are in the world but not of it' and 'our treasures are in stored up in Heaven where moth and rust cannot destroy'. As Kingdom people we operate according to His divine will and purpose which is revealed through Jesus Christ. But not to be confused with paying our dues remember our Lord said 'Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar' in regard to paying taxes. |

| Amen, Prayerful. We are not of this world and our standards are higher that the world's standards. We should obey the state until and unless they tell us to disobey God. |
