Beverly,

While that is true that we should obey those in authority (bosses, etc) UNTIL they ask of us to do or say anthing that violates Scripture or governmental law. At that you are on solid ground with God to (professionally and respectfully) refuse their requests.

This needs to underscored since there people following erroneous teaching out here and without this clarification gives them a "license" to be a "doormat"  God never called any of us to be a doormat.  This is why we have legs to stand on.

Lastly,  to state where we as a Christian should stand concerning governmental authority Proverbs 29:2 says it best:

29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

The question begs to asked, "How much happiness do see?"  Could it be that the righteous are not in authority?

Just a thought.

Beverly,
I agree with you. It's nice to see that there is someone else out there who realizes the full truth of all that Titus meant. So many believe this to mean that we should follow without question. That's ridiculous! Blind is exactly that; not seeing where you're headed. Would anyone take that step across a busy street without looking for cars or anything that could harm them? Why then would we follow an unrighteous leader into the "pit"? I cried all day following the last election. I cried for the people of this country who couldn't possibly understand the consequences of what they had done. Today they are beginning to see the errors of their ways.

The verse in context answers that--don't argue foolishly over ancestery or the Law of Moses, nor out of jealousy. As far as approaching ungodly authorities, I believe in being "helpful, gentle and kind," or as you say, to "professionally and respectfully" make our voices heard. That means we're not saying cruel things or arguing about petty issues or out of jealousy. Most authorities (and hear me, most), even the ungodly ones, respond to that when coupled with prayer. And it never hurts to let the Spirit examine our motives. Remember I also said, "We need to prayerfully allow the Spirit to lead us." Sometimes He'll lead us out the door. The key is responding to Him and not the person who is in authority above us.

As I indicated at first (perhaps I wasn't clear), I think this scripture was meant for other than just how to react to a foul group in Washington DC, USA. It was written to Titus for the organizing of the church on Crete. My opinion is that it isn't directed at national government at all.

Thanks for your response and ideas. Blessings.
