Obey
ALL in authority? I don't believe this verse tells us to go "
blindly" into any kind of obedience. Titus was clear that
ALL authority was put in place by God, therefore we are to obey what God has asked. This verse also says to "
be ready for any honest work". This is not going blindly into anything. I agree that the government we are witnessing at the present time will only lead us to destruction should we follow without question. Titus didn't say "Do not question.", so why do so many feel that this verse is saying that? Romans 13:1 is very clear where our obedience should come; "
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities;
for there is no authority except from God, and those authorities that exist have been instituted by God." Titus merely says to submit to those authorities. Colossians 2: 8-10 gives further advice on this authority.
Please do not take a simple verse that is meant to drive home some point and take the real meaning from it. Take the time to read all that is involved. Be as the Bereans and search the Scriptures for the truth that is spoken. Proverbs 29:2 says that "
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan." This means that even those in the pulpit, who are in authority to the church, cannot and should
never be followed blindly. We are a fallen people and therefore subject to error.
I had a friend who shuddered at the very word "submit". To her that meant as a slave. But, in reality submission to anyone should be done in love and respect. A wife submits to her husband as he should also to her. A child to his/her parent, an employee to the employer, a righteous man to his Lord. Love and respect are the keys. If you feel (believe) that your person of authority is not following the Lord's way; then as Joseph or Daniel, know that He gives you a way out without loosing your life or self-respect. Call on Him and He will take you through. I once heard David Jeremiah state that "God will not ask you to do something alone. He will walk through it with you." You will not be asked to "Blindly" follow any authority.
3:1 Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for any honest work,
