| Does Your Light Shine? Matthew Chapter 5: 14) “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15) “Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16) “Let your light so shine before men, that they see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Here he is talking to his disciples on the mountain, teaching them. What is he saying here? The words are simple and the message is clear. As Christians we are “let our light shine”, but this is not our light but rather God’s light that shines through us. In chapter 16 he is telling us that this is to glorify God in heaven not ourselves. I got this idea from a song I heard on the radio, “You Can Be a Beacon If You Let It Shine.” The words in this song are true. How can people know you a Christian if you let the light in you shine. I don’t want to have to tell people that I am Christian the way that I act and the way the way that I carry myself should reflect that. Does it always? Probably not. Am I perfect? No and God doesn’t expect me to be or does he. I should be the “light” in my home, place of work, social functions and out in public. Look at verse 16 again, is he saying go brag about your good works to get yourself noticed? No, God tells in the Bible that we are not to tell others of our deeds. That is between us and God and he knows what we do and that is what counts. He also knows if we did it to glorify him or ourselves. So as you start your day remember to ask God to let his light shine through you. That bright light that shines in you will make the difference in someone else’s life and yours. May God’s love surround you, may you find a brighter day. May he grant you the peace you seek in every way. God’s light burn in every life, yours and mine, And you can be a beacon if you let it shine. May God Bless Frank Alford |
