4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance; for from it flow the springs of life. You've gotta keep your heart, for someone is trying to take it captive. "The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy." Your heart is under constant enemy attack.
It takes vigilance to protect and keep your heart. If you are casual about guarding your heart it will be taken captive by the enemy's deception.
Most of us don't really value inner freedom. We are so caught up in outward appearances and other people's opinions that we neglect to protect our heart. We are inwardly swept along in the world's current.
However, believers are called to go against the tide. We are to be in the world but not of it. We are to set our affections on things above and to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. This all involves the heart -- our inner man.
We must not allow our inner man to be led by the flesh, the world, or the devil. We must be led by the Spirit. There is a fight going on and our heart is under constant attack. We cannot be inner wimps. We must be mentally and spiritually tough. We must protect our heart with all viligance -- that means total commitment to keeping our heart focused on God and His will.
Here's a story about a Chicago taxi drive and how he not only guarded his own heart but also tried to influence others for Christ: http://www.examiner.com/x-19568-Nashville-Evangelical-Examiner~y2009m8d29-A-Chicago-taxi-driver |

Hello Steve, I just want to encourage you to keep writing and bringing us these much needed reminders about how every day we must gaurd our heart. Outside forces come to shake our foundation of what we believe and tempt us in many ways. Thank you for being diligent to your call. The story of the cab driver is really good. Definately would be a different world if all found a simple way to share thier faith.
Bless you. |

[star!] | I'm wearing my Armor, yet I still have a very open heart. I long to be like Jesus. |

[star!] | Guarding my heart more than ever on this journey that's almost over. As I walk into my new Destiny I'm trusting God and laying my Heart in His Refuge (Psalm 91). My Heart has a New and Amazing Armor around it. Galatians 5! |

| Good point, Joey. Our heart needs to be open to God and to people's need, but closed to sin, the world, and the devil. |

[star!] | Hey Steve... Even at my age many times my T-Shirt and hats reflect Jesus... I am not obnoxious, but I am also not ashamed... In fact one of my bright red T-Shirst started a mini-revival in a donut ship in Lebanon, PA... :o) Blessings In Him... :o) Herman |

Properly fitted with the armor of Eph 6:10-19 there is no risk of being obnoxious. Please pray Eph 6:20 for me that Eph 6:11 may be fulfilled in me when the Spirit within me is grieved. I need His help not He mine, though He sure appreciates mine under His guidance. The evil spirit is a cunning manipulator of human impatience and can dress it up as holy zeal in so many subtle ways. Could this have been Pauls lament in Romans 7:14-19? Pray that I may take heart from Rm 7:25 and Jn 16:33 and guidance from Acts 17:22-34. Alex |
