This Call's For All

5:27 After this he went out, and saw a tax collector, named Levi, sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, "Follow me." 5:28 And he left everything, and rose and followed him. No small call came from Christ: "Follow Me." Levi left it all when he rose to follow that tall call.
Christ's tall call's for all, yall -- you, me, whosoever will. We are all called to follow Jesus. Now following Jesus doesn't mean saying some statement such as, "I am a Christian." Words are sometimes shallow and meaningles.
Following Jesus doesn't mean attending religious meetings. Anybody can sit through church.
Following Jesus doesn't mean agreeing to a creed. We can do that out of our greed or upbringing or other wrong motive.
Following Jesus doesn't even mean saying the sinners prayer to receive Christ and then resting on a one time spiritual experience. The path to salvation begins with being born again, it doesn't end there.
So what's it mean to follow Jesus. Think of the children's game, follow the leader. When the leader does something, then you are supposed to do the very same thing.
We are supposed to do what Jesus did -- to live like He lived. He is our example. "Whatever He says to you, do it." "As many as are led by the Spirit are the children of God." We are to do what the Holy Spirit says for us to do.
This call is to all -- not just to clergy (whatever that is) but for laymen (an unbiblical word) and even for those who haven't heard the name, Jesus, (we need to tell them, show them, love them). Every believer is called to leave all and follow Christ's call. We have to lay down our flesh, our will, our sin, our possessions, our family, and follow Him. That is faith. Whew. And it is not easy. It takes guts. Real men and women love Jesus.

Brother Steve, It ain't easy or more people would follow the tall call. The way is straight and the gate is narrow, it's a highway to heaven. None can walk up there but the pure in heart. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Lord create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit in me.

How true - and how rarely most of us actually heed the call! I'm guilty of doing what I want more often than I like to admit. Loving the unloveable (is there such a one in Christ's kingdom?), bearing up patiently under ill treatment, doing right when you get no credit & may even be berated -- just a few of the Tall Calls I have fallen short of! Lord, help me to allow you to stretch me!

Amen...Amen....Amen....Do it....Faith without works is dead....I don't care what nobody says (smile) |

Mar Jay: I agree with you. We've gotta have good works or we don't have faith. Is that a fair statement?
