I'm with Mimi and Papa right now.  Your words are right on the dot.

This visit...  Mimi has given me a hard time when it's time to take her pills.  She gets this gleam in her eyes, and I just pray as we work together to take them, one by one.

Mimi...  is a sweetheart, and a big tease.

Victory in Jesus!

Joey:  He helps through each and every situation we face.  More power to ya!

Mike:  Yeah, but even then they were victorous because they were a people whom God was not ashamed to be their God.  How awesome is that?

Working this out in a practical sense is difficult for us; it's "striving to enter his rest." I believe we have a hard time cluing in to the fact that this triumph is independent of our circumstances an any ability we may have to control them. The triumph is "in Christ." This brings to mind something that Ian Thomas wrote in his book "The Saving Life of Christ." Page 21: "Can any situation possible arise, in any circumstances, for which He is not adequate? Any pressure, promise, problem, responsibly, or temptation for which the Lord Jesus Himself is not adequate? If He be truly God, there cannot be a single one! 'And [He is] declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead' (Rom. 1:4)--and of this, His resurrection life, we are made partakers! This being so, applying His adequacy by faith to every situation as it arises, will leave you with no alternative but to obey the injunction of 1 Thessalonians 5:18--'In everything give thanks!' In how many things? In 'everything'--with exception, 'for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.' If there is any situation from which you are not prepared to step back, in recognition of the total adequacy of Christ who is in you, then you are out of the will of God. You are asserting by you action and by your attitude that He has nothing to give you for that situation, which you do not have in yourself. This is the very negation of dependence, and you disobey the injunction of verse 19--'Quench not the Spirit,' for the office of the Holy Spirit is to make known to you, and to make experiential to you, all that Christ is in you." [end of quotation] The rub, of course, is the fact that we tend toward self-dependence even when we say we're totally submitted to him and his adequacy. It's one thing to stand in awe of those verses and another to live them. :-) When we don't see ourselves "giving thanks in everything" we tend to try and produce that activity from our self, rather than centering down into who we are in Christ and who He is in us and therefore having thanksgiving that is spontaneous. Blessings! Craig

Craig:  That is good stuff!  That is always the difficult part applying the truth by faith.  If He is God in the good is He not God in the bad?  He is not Lord over all and nothing is too difficult for Him and we are always under His watch and care?  Therefore, we trust in Him and live for Him that He might be glorified in us.  Which goes to the next verse in 2 Cor 2...that we might be a sweet smelling aroma for Christ.
