Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:
But when the leaves hang trembling
The wind is passing thro'.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads
The wind is passing by.
This simple poem by Christina Rossetti expresses faith in a nutshell. Of course we can not see wind, but we can experience the evidence that it has come through. Sometimes the evidence is just a soft feeling on the skin; sometimes it is brutal devastation of great cities. It is the same with God. Neither you nor I have seen Him, but we experience the evidence that He has come around. Healing from sickness, provision in lack, joy despite pain, peace in the midst of turmoil--all are evidence that our God is near.
He has given us evidence that we can experience with our five natural senses: "The heavens are telling the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens He has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from it" (Psalm 19:1-6); "Yet [God] has not left Himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; He provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy" (Acts 14:17-18); "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--His eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood by what has been made, so that men were without excuse" (Romans 1:20). There is no excuse for not acknowledging God.
Man built the pyramids in Egypt, but he can not build great mountains; man built the Colosseum in Rome, but he could not build the Grand Canyon; man built the Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge, but he can not create the waters that they serve; man built the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, but no man can create a single seed that can grow a single plant; man put together Stone Henge, but man can not duplicate a red wood forest; man can create beautiful, massive works of art like the Taj Mahal and the Hagia Sophia, but he could not have imagined to create the Northern Lights nor the Great Barrier Reef. God is the great, unparalleled, undisputed Master Designer of the Ages. His creation speaks His integrity and truth. The wonder of His works declare His magnificence. Hallelujah!
Sometimes He is in the wind and storm, and sometimes He is in the still, small voice. For not acknowledging Him, man is without excuse.
1:20 Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse;
