| True Prophesy Is Moved By The Holy Spirit |
|
| |
1:21 because no prophecy ever came by the impulse of man, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. True prophecy never originates with humanity. It is not humanly figured out, thought up, schemed, or planned. It does not come from people's mind, emotions, or whims.
The source of real prophecy is the moving of the Holy Spirit. Prophecy is when God the Spirit communicates through a person.
Peter spoke propheticly when he told Jesus: "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God."
Jesus confirmed the prophetic nature of Peter's statement when he replied: "Flesh and blood did not reaveal this to you, but my Father in Heaven."
There is no question that God still reveals Himself and His truth to human beings. The Spirit still moves people. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."
The question is: Will we allow the Father to reveal Himself to us and the Spirit to move us to speak HIs revelation?
Revelation is awesome. However, many modern Christians avoid it out of fear and/or tradition. We are afraid of being mislead and/or we have been taught that revelation is a thing of the past.
Deception is always a possibility. Human will and/or demonic spirits can bring forth falsehood pretending to be revelation. Therefore we must test all teaching and revelation. True revelation will not contradict the Bible. True revelation will exalt Jesus as the Christ. True revelation will come forth in love, even when it is convicting or correcting. True revelation will be confirmed -- it will not contradict truth. True revelation will ring true to genuine believers -- this is the gift of discerning of spirits.
Anybody can miss God and speak a falsehood. Immediately after Peter spoke in revelation, he spoke out in falsehood and Jesus addressed it by saying: "Get you behind me, Satan."
We should be aware that any person, no matter how big his/her reputation as a prophet, can speak falsehood. We should not automatically believe anyone no matter how respected, or how big his church/ministry, or how accuarate he has been in the past. Remember the false Y2K prophesy. Some people sold enough books to get rich off that falsehood Always test the spirits as the Bible says.
A video of a famous prophet was posted on mychurch recently. On the video is lauded as an esteemed prophet and then he begins to predict one disaster after another. As he speaks forth tremendous doom and gloom, he shows no emotion or concern. He is so matter of fact. However, when Jesus spoke doom over Jerusalem, he wept. His heart was broken.
We must be very careful that we don't use the claim of prophesy as a tool for self promotion. God once spoke through a donkey. Just because God speaks through a person, doesn't make that person a celebrity or a hero. It doesn't mean you should buy all his books and/or attempt to get him to speak over you. God wants to speak directly to us all and through us all.
Look to God as your number one source of prophecy -- not to man. Get your word first hand, not second hand. Listen and the Spirit will move you.

[star!] | Good point about Peter. Guess that meant he wasn't a prophet? (God didn't seem to have any tolerance for false prophecies, instituting the death penalty for anyone who claimed to speak for him and then did so falsely - Deut. 18:20.) Many are deceived today...we have a high tolerance for falsehood! |

| Thanks, Mike. I don't think any human, prophet or not, is infallible. That is why we are told to "test the spirits." |

| Humans are not infallible, whether they be prophets or otherwise. But if they claim to speak for God, then they better be infallible in what they say! |

[star!] | Good blog. I try and tell people that all the time. I don't really know if it gets through though. Do not trust any man. Not this one nor others. Trust only in God to lead you to the truth. |

| Brother Steve, What about all these loosely translations that just about change the whole meaning of thus saith the Lord. The living bible and the Nearly Inspired Versions. There's verses completely left out of the NIV.... |

| thats dangerous stuff...the Holy Spirit resides in each believer. A Prophetic statement in todays Covenant is merely a confirmation of what the Holy Spirit has already told you. There were no meetings in the new coveant for the purpose of a spoken word to people prophetically. |
