| "If" Is A Very Big Word |

4:29 But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. If is a very big word. It looks so small and innocent, but don't be deceived, it is one of the biggest words in the Bible.
Almost all of God's promises contain an if. They have conditions. We will receive the promises if we meet the conditions.
We will find God if we seek Him with all our heart and soul. Notice that the Bible doesn't say 20% of our heart or 97.23% of our heart. It says all of it.
So how is it that we expect to be legitimate Christians on less than all? We often use grace as an excuse not to meet the conditions on God's promises. But grace doesn't cancel if. God will assist us with His grace in fulfilling the if, if we do our part and give God all our heart and soul.
I am not very found of if. If it was up to me I would leave it out of the Bible and make all the promises unconditional. Free everything for everybody, no accountability or responsibility -- but then chaos would rule, not God.
We are stuck with if. That's the way God made things. We can ignore reality and blame and complain. Or we can dedicate ourself to meeting God's conditions. We can seek His face and cry out for His help with all our heart. Then God will show us His grace and help us be and do His will. |
