| Don't Ride The Tide Of Pride |

4:37 Now I, Nebuchadnez'zar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase. The tide of pride falsely appears to rise. Pride pats itself on the back and delights in its seeming upward mobility. "Look at what I've done and what I have." But just like in Jesus' parable, one day pride hears the words: "Today your soul is required." Suddenly all of pride's pile of treasures and boasts amount to nothing.
King Nebuchadnez'zar didn't have to wait until death to experience the futility of his pride. He was humbled in life and went from the throne to living like an animal. His experience broke him and gave him wisdom.
God knows how to deal with those who walk in pride. He will abase them. "God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble." We love to talk and preach about grace. Sometimes we are even proud or our claim to grace. But pride and grace repel each other. Grace is given, not to the proud, but to the humble.
What should we do? "Humble yourself under the mighty had of God that in due time He may exalt you." When you are invited somewhere take the lowest seat. "Consider others better than yourself." Preachers, don't exalt your own name on God's ministry.
Here is an article about a US Senator who lived in humility as he boldly spoke out for human rights: http://www.examiner.com/x-19568-Nashville-Evangelical-Examiner~y2009m9d14-Americas-greatest-senator |
