| Able To Handle The Truth |

Remember the quote from Jack Nicholson in one of his military roles, "You can't handle the truth!" And it seems that when it concerns the world, the world cannot handle the truth. I know people who are so quick to point out the deficits in other's lives but who seem to have spiritual cateracts when it comes to their own. Jesus once said to not try and remove a speck from another's eye without first considering the beam in your own. God cannot tolerate a liar. Hence the Devil is dubbed as the Father of all lies. God does not have even the capacity to lie: The Holy Spirit can only tell the truth. I remember when I was a child one of my mother's favorite shows was Bill Lunden's To Tell The Church. Only one contestant was the real McCoy. The other two contestants job was to try and deceive the audience. It was not uncommon for the imposter to fool the populace. The Bible says that "man prefers darkness over light." People are born with a baser nature and the propensity to rebel against God. Only by the regeneration of the heart by God can one possess an appediate for the truth. Otherwise they seekout and even develop an appediate for that which is false and deceiving. The Bible teaches that as we near the end of time that many people will be deceived and will fall away from the Lord. They can become like Nero of whom legend says fiddled while Rome burned. Even in the church people can exhaust themselves in the quest for power and control while the enemy is waiting for the right time to pounce upon us. The unity of all of which we hold dear is slowly becoming unravelled: Racism, terrorism, apathy, hedonism, and many other threats are tearing apart the things our forebears worked hard to achieve and hold. Like Elijah we need to listen to the small still voice of God. God is laying out right before our eyes the truth, but we are so much into entertaining our own follies that we fail to hear or see what the Spirit is saying. Pray that we all listen to what Jesus called the Spirit of Truth. Let us all speak and act in a Spirit of love and truth. The truth can set us free but only if we allow it to take root in our hearts. We look for easy answers and bandaid solutions when the answer is the one who said he is the way, truth, and life.
