17:20 Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was coming, he answered them, "The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed;
17:21 "nor will they say, 'Lo, here it is!' or 'There!' for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you."
No one can see the borders of the Kingdom of God. Unlike a nation state, the Kingdom of God has no real estate. Since the tearing of the vail in the holy Temple from top to bottom, any place can be holy ground. God is no longer confined to the Temple or to particular places or nations.
Now He wants to live and establish His Kingdom inside of you, wherever you may be. Jesus taught us to pray for the Kingdom to come. "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in Heaven." What is His Kingdom? "His will being done." A kingdom is where a king rules. The King of Kings wants to establish His KIngdom, His rule, in you.
A true king rules with absolute authority. He is Lord and master. You cannot say "no" to the will of a true king.
Unfortunately, most of us Christians have not made God the true King of our life. Instead we have made him like the Queen of England, a mere figure head with no real authority over us. We call Him Lord, Lord; and then we live the way we want to. That, however, is not the Kingdom (rule) of God.
We get caught up in politics, outward signs, speculative end-time doctrines, while we run from the reality of the rule of God. Perhaps Jesus' mother, Mary, best described the Kingdom of God when she spoke to the servants at a wedding feast: "Whatsoever He says to you, do it."
Lord, we pray for Your Kingdom to come and then we refuse it. Forgive us.
