| Day 74 |

The reading for day 74 was Luke 10:1-20:47
In chapter 10 Jesus declares the sovereignty of God in election. Verse 22 says, "All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him" (NASB). That seems pretty explicit to me, but in case you need some help understanding it, Jesus tells you what you need to do to live. In verses 25-28 we see a question and answer. 10:25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 10:26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. 10:28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. Why did Jesus tell the man this in view of what He said previously? He wanted to prove to the man that no man can be saved if it is up to himself. Who could ever say that they have loved God with all of their heart, etc. and loved their neighbor as themselves? Jesus gave the impossible task of "Do this and you will live." I said in one of my previous posts that no one really knows how to love except for God. If that is true, then I can't ever live up to this love on my own. The Law must lead me to Christ or else I'm completely helpless.
Verse 13 of chapter 11 jumped out at me today as I was reading. It says, "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?" What do you make of this verse? Is this for salvation? Is it for an extra dose of spirit? Is it what God gives in answer to all prayer? In context, how does this verse fit in?
In chapter 12 we see the famous "If you confess me...I will confess you...if you deny me...I will deny you..." I think that this is not referring to denying Christians who suddenly decide to deny Christ. I think its saying that if you confess Christ as Lord...you are saved, and if you don't, you aren't. Why else would he say what he does in verses 11 and 12?
In verse 50 of chapter 12 Jesus says"...I have a baptism to undergo..." speaking about his death. I don't know why but I have never equated the two. I know that we are "buried with Him through baptism into death..." but I never thought of what He did as a baptism. What do you think about this?
What do you think of this verse? 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
In chapter 17 verses 20 and 21 Jesus says to the Pharisees, "...the kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, 'Look, here it is!' or, 'There it is!' For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst." What light does this cast on other passages about the kingdom of God?
Has anyone figured out what the vineyard represents in the parable of the vineyard? (See Luke 20:9-18)
