| American Idols |
|
| |
20:4 "You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; Here in America we don't worship many graven images. Or do we?
How about the images on our TV screens, computers, and phones. America voted and made celebrities out of unknowns.
Celebrities are people that we celebrate. Why? Because of their image. They may be wicked people, but they have a nice, slick, popular image. So we bow down and buy their records and books. We pay to go to their concerts and ball games and even pay for their autographs. We read about them, dress like them, talk like them, follow them, and sing their praises.
It is not just words. American Idol and our icon culture really do produce American idols. |

[star!] | You know Steve, I was a follower and then saw the damage it was doing, hooked and even missed church on a Wednesday night for results night...they compete with Wednesday nights...wrong is mildly stated. You are right on. I do think that it is a thing that people may not see right away, good people who love the Lord. We too often think of growth, want growth and forget there is a price, a sacriface to it. Like when Joyce Meyer said she was told to forego garage sales if she wanted a ministry on the scale she has, she had to spend time in the Word and prayer. Nothing wrong with garage sales but it was an obsession. Am. Idol is light compared to some stuff I have heard Christians watching or participating in. I found out a friend is visiting psychics to find out how a relationship will go.
Praying our guard is maintained and we are sensitive to what we need to hear from our Lord. |

| HigherGround: My post is not intended to speak against the TV program American Idol, but against our American system of making idols out of people; We even have Christian celebrities. However, Jesus, not man, is who we should celebrate and worship. |

[star!] | Agree Steve. Sometimes we even have to root out idols, that have subtly crept in (to our hearts). |

| Brother Steve, America is a nation of lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. We have become much like Paul's description in the book of Romans chapter 1, they changed the glory of God into an image made like corruptible man. |
