5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. Several years ago, passing out tracts at University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The message was Halloween, Getting Ready to Worship the Devil, by Pastor Joseph Chambers. There is an area on most college campuses that are called free access to students and the college staff . The purpose of the area is for free speech to different kinds of expression, passing out of birth controls and preaching ideas of liberalism. The opportunity to witness for Jesus was the purpose for our being there to pass out gospel messages in leaflet form. To my surprize there were a large number of student and a few staff members that took the tracts and some even said thanks. Several after reading the content became defensive over the fact that the writting shined a negative light on the celebration of All Hallowed Eve. Pastor Chambers researched the history of halloween and it's connection to the worship of Satan, upsetting some of these folks that claimed there's nothing wrong with celebrating Halloween. One of the college professors was so upset at me, after asking had I read the offensive material, that I was passing out. After assuring her that, "I don't pass out literature, that I don't agree with". It became a shouting match, mostly of how ignorant the author of this material was. I assured her that Pastor Chambers would be more than happy to sit down and discuss the content with her and share with her, where the research information came from, if she was willing. ( She didn't have any desire to speak with this or any other preacher )There was lots of strange reactions, that day by those that actually read the message, then realizing that there was a darkness connected to celebrating "All Hallowed Eve". I had just a few that were raised up in christian home's that said the content was totally correct. There was some young men wearing football jersey with the number 666 on them that had the name "Lucifer" on the back of the them. There was several young ladies dressed up as witches, ( all were the good witch types from the wizard of Oz ). The Bible says there's no such thing as a good witch, suffer the witch not to ----. If, I had to guess on a per centage basis, how many were in favor of celebrating halloween after reading the tracts? Probably 100%, cause for the most part the shared information was already common knowledge. There are those that are highly educated that will not retain God in their knowledge, some are even smarter than Almighty God, just ask them. If you know the Lord Jesus as your Saviour, how can you accept the celebration of Halloween with all the evil charactors associated with it? Maybe a trip would be in order to the library to research the history of Halloween. You'll find that sometimes the truth maybe just a little hard to swallow. Jesus said, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.Something to think about before you put on your devil's outfit with a pitch folk. |
