| Are We Living In The Age of the Fatherless? |

82:3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. 82:4 Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked." When historians write American history about our time, they may call it The Age of the Fatherless. So many children, nowadays, are growing up without a father in their home.
It is not usually because their dad is dead, but much more often because their dad is deadbeat. I worked for 5 1/2 years as a chaplain in a rehab and was continually shocked by how many children those men (80% of them were white) had abandoned both personally and financially.
Our society is saturated with fatherless children. Their rights have been violated, not by the government or by the market place, but by the men who father them and run away from their responsibility.
Fatherless children have a very difficult time both financially and emotionally. The Bible tells us to "Give justice to the weak and the fatherless." This command is not to the government, but to the people of God.
We, God's church, are called to reach out to the fatherless and help them heal. They desperately need to see the love of their Heavenly Father, because their earthly father didn't love them enough to stay with them.
We can also give the fatherless justice by reaching out to the deadbeat dads and bringing them to repentance and to Jesus. The Bible says that Jesus "will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children." How we need the fulfillment of that Word in our day.
We, God's people, need to be faithful fathers and mothers to our own children. And we need to preach the truth that sexual sin creates fatherless children and/or children assinated in the womb.
And we need to help the hurting fatherless boys and girls and adults to experience the Father who will never leave them or forsake them.
