Frank,
You have deliver unto us a very important topic covering Forgiveness and forgiving ourselves.
You have covered a great deal of information in your posting which very apreciated. As you have mentioned as the Christian's ethics on forgiveness is to Forgive others as Christ has forgiven us, I find very meaningful. Only one have to consider his/her possition or standing before receiving God's forgiveness of sin.

That is to say, we were enemies of God; hateful, wrathful, despisible selfish creatures desiring to fulfull everything perverted thing in our heart that we could imagine. We were lawbreakers and transgressors against God in every way, We loath to do what was right only to satisfy our own lust and desires. We were backstabbing and striful people waiting to destroy anyone who would disagree with our purpose and plans. Filled with anger and deceit, we seek for selfish love and hungered for power and control.

With that said, and only when we could be truly honest with ourselves, would we acknowledged that we were a people deserving the fulfullness that Hell could give us, I believe that when we completely understand where we were headed before we came to Christ and were saved by Him, then will we be so grateful because of  God's love toward us and we would be so thankful that He had found a way that we can be forgiven for our sins and that he had saved us out of the pit of Hell.

Knowing fully well that we had a debt that we could not pay, humbles us in the sght of God; knowing that by the love of God and through the death of Christ, our debt is once and for all forgiven and paid in full through the death of the Son of the Living God.

In Great apreciation toward God our Father, truly now as His dear children, keep in mind all that God has done for us in Christ, that we too can express his deep love by forgiving those around us  who may have wrong us and most surely forgiven ourselves of our own errors, for God has surely forgiven us.

Another way to look at that is to say, if we hold on to unforgiveness when we know that God has forgiven us, are we saying to God that we are far better than He? Surely we do not what God to not to forgive us do we? Then we too, must forgive ourselves as well as forgive those around us. Forgiveness is also a light that shines in the darkest of our worlds. Let your light so shine.
