5:17 "Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them. "He didn't mean what he said. He nailed it to the cross," one might say. "Fulfill is just another way of saying abolish. He abolished it," another might say. "The law is done away," is another view. "We keep the whole law by loving one another," is yet another view. "We only keep the moral law [even though the Bible nowhere uses that term]," is yet another view. An interesting book discussing a few major Protestant views from Zondervan is 5 Views on Law and Gospel. If it is weak in one area, it ignores Catholic and Orthodox views. Another interesting book is The Shadow of Christ in the Law of Moses. |
