I was a panelist at 2 conferences recently - the Social Networking Conference on July 31st and CommunityNext on July 14th. In both, I did a fair amount of Q/A about the Facebook platform.
(btw, I LOVE being a panelist much more than being a speaker. When the spotlight is not just on me, I tend to present a lot better!)
In the last 2 months, I've been quietly studying the Facebook platform and launching 6 MyChurch applications on there. I've also talked to a lot of other web companies in Silicon Valley about Facebook apps. I even went to Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto to talk about Facebook apps for Christians.
Our team has been successful - our MyChurch apps have a combined total of 300,000 users and growing.
All 6 apps are designed for Christians to share their faith on a secular site. To spread the good news. To be salt and light. To evangelize in word and in deed. They address a lot of the concerns I had here
The app I'm going to start to promote soon is the Facebook church app. If you are a member of Facebook, I'd love for you to give this app a try and let me know what you think. It lets Facebook users show which church they belong to, as well as share their church's events, sermons, and other content to their Facebook friends.
This is done through integration of their church's profile on MyChurch with this Facebook "My Church" application. In essence, it lets a church outreach through the existing social networks of their members. 7000 people and 800 churches have already added the beta version of the app...
The app is a work-in-progress, as we have some other features we'll be adding to it soon. We also have a planned promotion campaign for it that we'll launch in a couple weeks. So consider this an early sneak peek :)
ps. If you know of an organization that wants to create a Facebook app, please let me know. My developers are experts in creating and launching apps and are available to help... |
