Monday, October 26, 2009 -- (Meditation: I John 4:9-10)
God, when I look upon the Cross of Calvary, I see pure Innocence suffering
unmercifully. Blood flowed from painful punctures. Mocking crowds, drawn
to violence, hurled their jeering taunts at the Son of God. His innocence
took on their pain and death. Their mocking was forgiven. Tragedy became
victory. His death and resurrection offered life everlasting. God, when I
look at myself, I see sins wiped clean, and my death overcome. Thanks be
to You, O God, for Jesus Christ, Your Son! Amen.
Tuesday, October 27, 2009 -- (Meditation: Matthew 5:3-12)
O God, why is it that in times of prosperity we forget You, and in times of
tragedy and suffering we turn to You? In times of prosperity we pursue
hedonism. We focus on "me." We fight over "my rights." God, in Your Word
we see that we have it all wrong: "Blessed are the meek (not the arrogant)
. . . Blessed are those who mourn (not those who are indifferent) . . .
Blessed are you when others shall revile you (not praise you)." But we turn
it around and go our own way. God, have mercy upon us, and set our feet
back on Your path. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Wednesday, October 28, 2009 -- (Meditation: Ephesians 5:1-2)
God, as I live this day . . . doing my job . . . following my To-Do list
. . . doing my duty . . . I pray that, through it all, You will keep my
heart in tune with You . . . filled with love . . . secure in Your heart.
God, help me to do my work in a way that grows out of a heart in tune with
Yours. Through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.
Thursday, October 29, 2009 -- (Meditation: Galatians 6:14)
"When I survey the wondrous Cross on which the Prince of glory died, my
richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid
it, Lord, that I should boast, save in the death of Christ my God. All the
vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood."
(Isaac Watts, 1707)
Friday, October 30, 2009 -- (Meditation: I Thessalonians 4:3-8)
God, our culture is being shaped by the media and the internet. Daily they
expand the territory of immorality, like a conquering army. They push the
boundaries of sex, violence, and disgust in search of ratings, publicity,
and profit. They do not care about the Christian values of our founding
fathers. God, open their hearts to see what they are doing. Use them and
their power for Your glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.
