Pastor preached and said several got different things from it, such is the power of God's word. I got a word that could be preached at a funeral. He said he had not thought of it that way and may just do that at the next funeral her preaches. Let me explain. 6:1 Now the sons of the prophets said to Eli'sha, "See, the place where we dwell under your charge is too small for us. 6:2 Let us go to the Jordan and each of us get there a log, and let us make a place for us to dwell there." And he answered, "Go." 6:3 Then one of them said, "Be pleased to go with your servants." And he answered, "I will go." 6:4 So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. 6:5 But as one was felling a log, his axe head fell into the water; and he cried out, "Alas, my master! It was borrowed." 6:6 Then the man of God said, "Where did it fall?" When he showed him the place, he cut off a stick, and threw it in there, and made the iron float. 6:7 And he said, "Take it up." So he reached out his hand and took it. Pastor preached how natural law was suspended for this miracle of bringing the axe head back up out of the water. He said the stick could represent the cross that Elisha threw into threw into the water or the branch from Jesse representing the raising up or resurrrection type. The only thing different that stuck out to me is that the axe head was not belonging but borrrowed by the servant. The servant calls Elisha master.
When my sons died, repeatedly I heard from folks that our children are not our own, but loaned to us or we have borrowed them by God (our Master as we are his servants) and He suspends natural laws to resurrect them and take them to Himself.
When Landon died, my friend, Yolander (yep that is her name) sang the following song at his funeral, called Fear not my child (I know how to take care of what belongs to me).
lyrics: In myself I´ve failed the Lord Then was afraid to try once more That fire in my soul had fled That´s when Jesus came and said " My spirit gives the strength you need To raise you up and to succeed And for the vision in the night To you I´ll give these words of life CHORUS: Fear not my child I´m with you always I feel every pain And every tear I see Fear not my child I´m with you always I know how to care for what belongs to me He said " Child don´t look behind Discouragement is all you´ll find Don´t watch the waves that roll the sea But just focus Your eyes on Me And I will make you stong and then Your shattered courage I will mend And if you fall and should get hurt Remember these eternal words ( repeat chorus) |

This was Pastor Scott's sermon but he just had not put together the "borrowed" axe head being a type of loaned person taken in death. He said several different people got several different things from it.
Praise God, the power of the living Word. |
