First the news:
October 21: Atheist Foundation of Australia and Global Atheist Convention Websites Attacked—"Recently the Global Atheist Convention website suffered a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack, which caused the Global Atheist Convention and the Atheist Foundation of Australia websites to be taken offline. This was a network attack and we have been informed it was specifically aimed at our websites."
A DDOS is when thousands of individual computers from all over the world simultaneously—and repeatedly—request something from a single server. The result is the server cannot cope with the millions of simultaneous requests so either slows to a crawl or locks up. The end result is the server is "forced" to shut down for a time. This is one kind of cyber-warfare. Somebody doesn't like these atheists meeting.
The atheists' unofficial response (and the topic of this blog):
This is a call to all non-believers and advocates for freedom of speech to join us in a global co-ordinated minute of prayer with the aim of inundating God (in this context, the Christian god, God, as distinct from the Greek god, Zeus, the Egyptian god, Ra etc etc) with so many useless prayers that it causes his divineness to go offline as as result of our own DDOS ('Divine' Denial of Service).
The prayer minute will be at exactly 8pm (Eastern Standard Time) & 9am (Greenwich Mean Time) on Sunday 8 November 2009.
Please join us in this important task, with any luck it will take God a while to get back online, ensuring us at least a few days of godless peace. It will also give the Westboro Baptist Church some much needed time to catch up on paperwork.
Isn't that amazing? Thousands of atheists around the world will be praying! This is, effectively, a DDOS attack against God. Are they hoping God will be overwhelmed and shut down? Remember Elijah on Mount Carmel who had a similar showdown (1 Kings 18).
Spread the word!
I think this is a fabulous exercise, something God can totally work through. Imagine atheists praying to God and God answering back! We should participate in this DDOS as well. As shown above, it will be 8:00 PM EST on the 8th. We know God can handle the massive influx, so let's do like Elijah did and pour water on the firewood and help the atheists out in their attack!
"O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that this people may know that thou, O LORD, art God, and that thou hast turned their hearts back."
Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The LORD, he is God; the LORD, he is God."
