3:8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. Talk about a long day, whew! A day like a thousand years.
And talk about time travel, whew! A thousand years to go by in a day. Whatta time zone.
What is the Bible talking about in this verse?
Albert Einstein arrived at a similar conculsion through science -- that time is realitive, not absolute. God is beyond time. He is eternal. He sees the end from the beginning.
We are struck in time, but time doesn't apply to God. In our human time zone we are like people standing in an alley watching the Macy's Parade. From our very narrow perspective we see small bits of the floats, ballons, and bands as they pass immediately in front of us.
However, in God's time free zone, He sees the entire parade at once (like someone standting on the roof of the tallest building). God is time free. We are time bound. We judge things by their immediate impression. He judges things by their eternal impact and motive. |
