In this post post-modern world in which we now live, with all the technological advances made, the vast proliferation of knowledge in the sciences, it's easy for mankind to forget that we were made. We are the workmanship of His hands. David said, "We are his people and the sheep of his pasture" (Ps. 100). There are all sorts of philosophies which try to explain away the existence of God- the creator. Scholars have dissected the sacred text we call the Holy Bible with all manner of criticisms- source, etc, and I have learned them from some of the best. When I was a student of science, there were many who thought that the notion of a creator was ridiculous, some were more subtle than others. In any event, we students were smart enough to pick up on the implications no matter how nuanced they were. Some students used the vast knowledge that surrounded us in the form of human capital, namely highly trained professors, to cash in on their own doubt. Some regurgitated what they heard in classroom lectures and laboratories to justify becoming humanists, atheists, agnostics and all other manner of skeptics.
If I tried to convince you that I never wavered in my faith, I'd be lying. There were moments, particularly when my very orthodox religious beliefs were challenged by some theological theory or other finding discussed in the classroom, that my heart yearned to be more sure. I guess there is something great about having had experiences with the Holy Other, whatever name you may use to identify Him or Her. After-all, God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must do so in spirit and in truth. That's what Jesus told the woman at the well (Jn 4.24). So, rather than using the plethora of opportunities to doubt the existence of God when I was peering daily through the microscopes to study the unseen world of microbes, I said within myself, nobody but God could do this. That world of "ten to the negative six" and smaller was far too fascinating, complex and ordered for any other plausible explanation. Science taught us early on that the way of the universe digresses from order to chaos -entropy. Certain other theories want us to believe that this complex thing we call creation went from chaos to complete order- Big Bang, Evolution, punctuated equilibrium, etc. To the contrary!
After all the learning, I am left with the same testimony that God is (exists) and those who come to God must believe that God is (exists) and that God is the rewarder of those who diligently seek (inquire/require) of God (Heb. 11.6). I am glad that he holds my tomorrow. I am glad that he is the same yesterday, today and forever. I am glad that he is the ancient of days.
So as the scripture declares today that one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as one day for God. So are his thoughts above ours. Some things, I've come to the conclusion, I won't understand until I transition to eternity. After-all, if we understood everything all the time, would there be a need for that most virtuous of things, faith?
3:8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
I don't understand alot either Mr. Jerome, like how can a thousand years be one day, and one day a thousands years? But like you said, if I understood all things, I wouldn't need faith. And we all know that without faith, it's impossible to please GOD
Well, Ms Crystal I could confuse you even more talking about Quantum Mechanics/Physics but I won't. Let's just say that these things we call time and space were created for our finite, corruptible bodies. The spirit world is not limited to time and space. That's why time isn't a factor for God.
thanks for not confusing me Mr Jerome, thats dangerous...ask anyone who knows me...haha I just want to bust out of this o body and shout. Know what I mean?
You'll get your chance soon enough! We shall lay down this corruptible body and put on incorruptibility! We shall be changed in a moment, in the twinkiling of an eye. I Cor 15:52
